In the pre-reboot James Bond films, there were a total of five James Bond actors, three Miss Moneypennys, and who knows how many Felix Leiters. They were all supposed to be the same respective characters--and yet, how many different faces?

I think she died, she was on of of the ships was eliminated early on by Nero after his escape.

Since Q and M never changed, one could argue that James Bond and Felix Leiter are cover names. In Quantum of Solace Bond asks the dying Mathis if that was his cover name, and he nods.

^Except The Spy Who Loved Me (Moore), For Your Eyes Only (Moore), and License To Kill (Dalton) all make referrence to the death of Tracy in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, (FYEO being the most overt and clear example). The World Is Not Enough (Brosnan) has a subtle "possible" reference to her: When Elektra asks Bond if he's ever been in love (or words to that effect), Bond stiffens a bit....

And of course, the pre-titles sequence of Diamond's Are Forever is apparently supposed to be his quest for revenge.

Yes, I think we are supposed to imagine that they look the same.

And sound the same of course. Seriously, I watched it for the first time last night and thats what bothered me the most. I'm just sooo familar with those voices, those styles of speaking, and Bones aside there weren't any characters I knew.

In the world of fiction, the reader/viewer is the outsider. To the characters in story everything appears as it should be. Case in point: Spectre Of The Gun, a sort of story within a story. To the citizens of Tombstone, everything was as it should be. Only the outsiders (landing party) knew that things were not as they appeared.

So it is up to us as the outsider to accept the parameters of the story as presented.

Or not.

I mean...accounting for age, of course. Quinto clearly "sounds" younger than Nimoy did.

Quinto doesn't sound at all like Nimoy, and never will.

Who sounds like Nimoy, can kinda look like Nimoy, and has a little acting ability? I thought Quinto was the best option to play the new Spock, Not all the casting was ideal, but that one they did quite well IMO of course

Here was my take on the characters:

nuKirk: Excellent. Chris Pine worked in some subtle homages to Shatner (his speech--attheendof...the simulation was...pureShatneresque!), and I could hear in his voice a young Kirk.

nuSpock: Excellent, for the same kinds of reasons.

nuBones: SUPERB! Urban had DeForest Kelley DOWN.

nuScotty: Pretty good...but I'd love to see him in some good serious moments in the next film. Have him grow some hair a bit, to look more like Doohan. Pegg seemed to have a bit of a buzz cut in XI....

nuSulu: Okay. He wasn't characterized too much in XI. Here's hoping next film will show us more of the playful, adventurous Sulu we know and love.

nuUhura: Eh...okay, I guess, but...it seems as if they jettisoned the classical characterization Nichelle Nichols gave her, in favor of a modern stereotypical "cool gal". Hope they tone down the "attitude" in the next one. Keep the confidence, but give her the sweet side Nichelle gave her, too.

nuChekov: Ah...well...he was way too much of a "comic relief" character. Lay off the "GOO-GOO-GOO-GOO-GOO! I KEN DO DAT! I KEN DO DAT!" with arms flaying around. Tone it down, already, and have him take himself a bit more seriously. Lose the "Sing-song" tone, most apparent with his announcement to the crew. And please...grow the hair, and comb the curls out!

All the characters would finally be in place, wouldn't they? Kind of like the AU books. The publishers can't get started with them until the next movie.

I for one do not expect Quinto to take up a massive smoking habit just for the sake of sounding more like Nimoy.
