Stronger character: Jadzia vs Kira

Both characters grew throughout the show, and both became very likable characters (IMO).

So, I think it's neck and neck. Both characters are 'strong.'

Maybe we should place them both in the same room and see who would win a knife fight. Do you recall the knife fight with Faith and Buffy when they got the knives to each others neck at the same time.

I still need to catch up on my Buffy, but I get the point (pun not intended!)...

Both characters (Jadzia and Kira) were able to handle themselves pretty well; I recall the episode when the treaty with the Klingons was on hiatus, and the Klingons boarded the station after breaking through DS9's defenses. (I think the only one who got knocked to the floor was O'Brien, and an unnamed yellowshirt).

True, but there has been times that Kira has been hurt. Kira did get a knife stab from a Klingon on DS9 and she was hurt on the ship during some battle. Be interesting to see Jadzia and Kira with some Klingon combat practice walking into sickbay to get fixed up. Oh, Worf would be upset. Better not do that

Why did they need a science officer? And if a science officer was needed, why didn't the Sisko get another one to replace her instead of replacing her with a counsellor?

Well she did find the wormhole. It's a fairly important piece of DS9's lore. One would also assume that a new science officer came onboard DS9 when Jadzia died. There was a three month gap between Jadzia and Ezri.

O'Brien could have kept the station from blowing up all by himself, didn't really need Jadzia for that.

True but Jadzia wasn't an engineer. She could support O'Brien (we saw that on multiple occassions) but wouldn't be responsible for the day to day stuff. Though Jadzia did have to tell O'Brien how to move the station.

Yes sometimes Kira just yelled a lot. But I don't see how that's any worse to how Jadzia just monotoned a lot all the time. At least Kira had some personality to her.

I thought Jadzia brought a larger perspective to the show. In a way she was an O'Brien type (old soul who has seen it all) as oppossed to Kira who really grew.

Still, with the final season nobody needed the science officer. In fact, it was not even a subject with the last 28 episodes. Indeed, three months from the time of the death of Jadzia Dax and the first time Ezri Dax came to DS9 would need a replacement of a science officer.

Still, it would have been to odd if Ezri Dax was a science officer too. Can accept that Ezri was the only Trill on the ship going to Trill. Can accept that Ezri is a woman. Still, it does push the limit to also say Ezri was also a science officer. Ezri had to be something other then a science officer.

In my judgment, a science officer is much stronger than a counsellor.

What I'm saying is that DS9 got a new science officer but we didn't see that person on screen. Indeed Jadzia as the science officer wasn't important in later seasons as Jadzia the commander.

However I don't believe Jadzia's character was ever defined as "the science officer". The job wasn't important to the character in the same way Bashir being a doctor was.

True, Jadzia the science officer was replaced with Jadzia the commander. And Bashir the doctor was replaced with Bashir the fantasy 1960's spy. :rommie:

Jadzia. What she lacks in psychical strength she make sup in determination. She is the stronger of the two emotionally becasueif Odo were to have dies Kira wouldn't recover but Jadzia accepted death and knew if Worf died, it would be with honor. Jadzia was always a sweet friednly face but she was also a hell of crewmember to have on the Defiant. Kira has the flaw of being too hostile. She holds alot of hate and ager which clouds her mind.

You watched the show, right? Not only did Kira get over the death of Bareil quite well, but when Odo was on his deathbed she left him in order to continue her duty. During the final two episodes she thought that Odo was dead and she still held together very well. And in the final episode she kept a smile on her face while he walked out of her life forever. So I don't know where you got the idea that Kira wouldn't be able to hold herself together without Odo.
