Strange thing about the hull

yes.. that's my question. I figured someone here who is all sweaty about starships and designs (and I'm not sounding disrespectful about that.. I think that's awesome) might know, and I'd like to learn
Im not sweaty, just sexy, but I wonder if its a recessed bay for launching shuttles or possibly a lowered elevator for bringing on board cargo? The D had big cargo entry bays like this?

Shot in the dark?

The hull plates that look like huge fans on the bottom of the saucer and the drive section of the D are cargo loading doors.

The indentation is for when the ship breaches atmo. They fill it with water and have a combo pool, swim-up bar and mermaid feature for the lounges on the other sides of those windows.

So...could you safely fit either a Boeing 747 or an Airbus A380 into the main shuttlebay of a Galaxy-class ship?

Apologies for this sidebar question.
