Strange thing about the hull

Anyone have any idea what this strange indent is for on the hull? Also.. Orville is fine.. so while I might tune in.. it is clear that Seth "gets" Trek while CBS has somehow lost it.

but what purpose it be.. when they can actually maximize the living space? You are asking a negative question. It's like me asking why the sky is blue and you just coming back with "why can't it be?"
Maybe there's a structure under there that requires the shape.
I'm look for the reason you think it's strange. I'm sure a lot of Trek ships have indents somewhere.

yes.. that's my question. I figured someone here who is all sweaty about starships and designs (and I'm not sounding disrespectful about that.. I think that's awesome) might know, and I'd like to learn

They mostly like just be making things up. There is a cutaway in trailer. Go to town.

....Maybe Starfleet folks are sick to death of having skylights and floor windows, and want an exterior view they can enjoy without straining their necks - even if it largely consists of the opposite quarters' like windows? (And perhaps exactly because it does?)

The ship appears to have plenty of those sinkholes, four on the underside alone (I initially mistook them for cartoon-thick phaser stripes). Might be these evolved into the terraced saucer underside of the Sovereign class. Might be the designer was drawn and quartered and then space-buried in those underside holes - all of them.

why does it make sense to have an indent there?

For the same reason there's cutouts on the nacelle pylons on this ship or Eaves' 1701...

None whatsoever.

Pointless indents and cutouts are standard on Starfleet ships for a while now. I'd be surprised if Eaves didn't design this, useless design details like this are his specialty.

Everyone agrees that the first season of TNG has not aged well. but here is the thing.. when it was made everyone worked so hard on it. The idea of designing a ship with a "technology unchained" philosophy (mixing the best of technology with improved quality of life) wound up being more than having a wooden railing on the bridge, it was incorporated into every aspect of the bridge's design. Everything from makeup tests on actors to motion control photography of the D resulted in creating long hours for everyone involved, and something that truly felt in line with Star Trek. Every show that bared the name required no less effort to produce, until now. Cheap animation and a crass attitude is not befitting the name Star trek. It's the lowest common denominator.

But I have CBS and I will watch. I'll give it a try. Everyone told me to watch Knives Out and I did and it was garbage but I still watched
