I had an awesome dream the other night that wasn't actually a Star Trek dream, but it had both Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Patrick Stewart as Professor X in the MCU debut of the X-Men, so I decided to share with you guys the plot of the film:
Marvel's THE X-MEN
The film opens with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meditating on the roof of the Sanctum Sanctorum building, when suddenly he detects a presence, a "like mind to my own". He flies down to Greenwich Village where a man, who is obviously Logan pre-Wolverine, is making a public scene by brawling with police officers. Strange attempts to apprehend Logan, all the while knowing that Logan isn't the presence he has detected, when suddenly everyone freezes, except Strange. Strange is confused at first but sees one other person who is navigating his way through the crowd in a floating yellow hover chair: the man introduces himself as Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) who has come to Greenwich because he detected Logan's mutant genes using Cerebro, and has come to take him into his custody. Xavier explains that he uses a powerful computer called Cerebro to detect fellow mutants and that he himself is a mutant. Strange, while still somewhat confused, allows Xavier to "keep an eye on Logan" (Logan doesn't make any further appearances in the film).
The film then transitions to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. It is made obvious that the mansion is a different one from the Fox films. We see a young Jean Grey enter the house and formally request Xavier to take her in, as she has run away from home. Afterwards, while Henry Jackman's theme from X-Men First Class plays and we are introduced to the X-Men proper, Professor X delivers a voice over monologue: "My name is Charles Xavier. I am a mutant, an evolved member of the human race with special gifts of telepathy and psychic powers. Each mutant has their own gifts, which is why I have taken it upon myself to open a school for young mutants to help teach them how to best control and live with their gifts. From among these students I have also selected a special few who possess unique attributes which I am attempting to hone, in the hopes that they can defend the common interests of peaceful relations between humans and mutants: Scott Summers, codename Cyclops, a natural born leader whose eyes generate powerful destructive optic blasts; Hank McCoy, codename Beast, whose monstrous form and massive hands and feet belie a brilliant mind and gentle disposition; Bobby Drake, codename Iceman, whose manipulation of the cold can allow him to produce and transfigure himself into solid ice; and Warren Worthington, codename Angel, whose feathered wings provide him with the ability to soar high above the clouds. Alone, they face a world that fears and hates them. But together, they are my X-Men."
The rest of the dream is a bit vague, but I got the impression that the X-Men wore similar outfits to their 60's comic book counterparts, with the yellow vests over navy blue tights and masks. They all looked to be high school age, or at least the same age as Tom Holland's Spider-Man. The character development also depicted Cyclops as being very shy around Jean Grey, hinting at his feelings for her, and although the rest of the team joked with him about it, you got more of a sense of camaraderie among them than in the movies. As for villains, Magneto is nowhere to be seen (yet!) but the Sentinels seem to be the chief antagonists for the X-Men, and both Bolivar Trask and William Stryker make appearances as being the guys behind the scenes pulling the strings. The film's ending is also very vague in my memory, but I do remember the final scene being Jean Grey joining the X-men, with either Beast or Angel joking that she needs to think up a codename.
While I know for sure I had woke up before this could have happened in my dream, I really want to think that the post credits scene would have had Magneto breaking into a Sentinel production facility and reprogramming them to follow his commands.
