Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

I didn't WANT just ANY image.

I had something specific in mind (nothing about that photo particularly screams "accountant").

You think I didn't look?

ETA: I did a reverse image lookup. That photo has appeared on Pinterest, Facebook, and cuteness.com.

You swiped it from Google from people who swiped it from God-knows-where.

Thank you for proving my point.

Say what you will about my AI cat -- at least it hasn't been posted to a zillion other places.
Trying to high-road your AI image which is built on theft to begin with isn’t the win you think it is.

IMO, there's not much character growth left to explore between now and when we first meet Kirk and Spock in TOS—and what little development remains doesn’t feel substantial enough to carry an entire show.

I just don’t see the point of doing a series based on the first year of the crew only. Now a TV movie or one and done mini-series, I can support.

Just my 2 cents.

Still hoping for a political style Star Trek show in the vein of The West Wing meeting Andor. I would call it Star Trek - Federation.

A show set just after ENT, during the birth of the Federation. It's about the first Federation president and its staff and the ambassadors from Vulcan, Andor and Tellar and about those first Federation worlds and how they respond to Earth, the Federation council and the growing pains of a galactic cooperation. A political thriller, with intrigue and political handy work. Could be something different for Star Trek.

Or a political Star Trek serie set after the Dominion war or after Star Trek Picard serie ended. I would call it
Star Trek: Articles of the Federation! :D

Year One probably would work better as an anthology series focusing on the first year of captains of the Enterprise or other Connie ships i.e. April, Pike, Kirk, Matt Decker on the Constellation, Bob Wesley on the Lexington. The way it’s been pitched as a completion of the TOS gang getting together does not do it for me. Kirk's first year should be about the WNMHGB gang instead.

That might actually happen.

OMG! That would be something... Make it so!

Goldsman wants to rewrite Canon Trek history by overriding TOS with a 'Prime Timeline' Reboot series showing parts of Kirk's tenure as Captain that we've already seen, but doesn't want the backlash that saying so outright would generate, so he's trying to convince the fandom that it's something they should want and show support for.

No he doesn't. This would be another prequel.

We've already Canonically seen the first part of Kirk's tenure as Captain of the Enterprise; that's what the first season of TOS covered.

In trying to get fans to support a "Year One" show, Goldsman is showing that he wants to override TOS with new Canon but doesn't want to be the one to propose such a thing because if the fandom at large realized that that's what he's suggesting, they'd be coming for his head.

No we haven't and no it wasn't. It's clear based on dialogue in the first episode that Kirk had known some of his crew for a while.

Nothing in TOS Season 1 ever said that was his first year in command.

Goldsman is showing that he wants to override TOS with new Canon

He even said in an interview that isn't the case. Year one would cover the time between Kirk taking command and the start of season 1.

According to official Chronological sources, TOS Season 1 starts in 2265.

Also, according to official Canon, Kirk took command of the Enterprise in 2265.

Therefore, parts of TOS Season 1 were in fact Canonically depicting Kirk's first year aboard the Enterprise as its Captain.

Even if we want to say that we never saw the official start of Kirk's tenure as Captain of the Enterprise depicted onscreen in the Prime Timeline, you can't make an entire series centered around that topic without Canonically overriding at least parts of TOS Season 1.

Works for me.

Not one minute of TOS on film stops existing because of the new version. And frankly, TOS is the version of Trek that new viewers are least likely to care about.

Even Star Trek fandom isn't monolithic, No one speaks "for the fandom."

Yeah, I don’t get the argument that “Year One” can’t cover a single year in more than one season. Roughly 26 notable things happened to the older shows’ crews in the same development span that we’d be getting 10.
