Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

I'm with you on that, actually! I'm a bit surprised that it isn't a "Years Four and Five", or (better yet), the post-TMP approach you mentioned. I guess Goldsman and Myers just really like the idea of moving straight from Strange New Worlds' series finale, and building further on Kirk's formative moments as captain. Which is all well and good. But still, haha.
Yeah, I'd rather have a TMP-era Year Six than Year One. Get some of that generation-Matalas movie-era nostalgia pumping, plus it's more open-ended.

On the other hand, they've done a surprisingly good job of recontextualizing TOS already; like I always say, if someone dumped me in a splashy song-and-dance number then decided they wanted to get back together, I'd throw their soup in the hallway, too. And as CLB points out, there's a lot of potential in an extremely direct TOS prequel, for those who dare greatly and aren't afraid of accusations of fannish blank-filling or slavish adherence to canon. But Andor show that's possible; it's braided tight to Rogue One and the rest of the Star Wars storytelling of that era, down to giving backstories for random props and costume pieces from the movie, and the common meme you hear is that it was so good because the people involved didn't care about referencing Star Wars, just because it didn't feel referential. Focusing tight on the early-installment weirdness of TOS's first episodes might be the very tack to take, doing "unexpected" things like putting Sulu in blue and Uhura and Spock in gold, or giving Kirk a dirtbag best friend who actually acts like the Kirk stereotype.

Do I get to show run? I’m just *dreaming* of Jim Henson Puppets recreating all of my favourite characters!!!

I'm not sure what Goldman is trying to do here. He said there's stories that can be told here before WNMHGB. True, but we are talking about a pretty narrow window here. Why would you want to spearhead a new project with such a rigid timeline . ? Yeah they can do a one-off miniseries but it seems weird to want to shoehorn a new project that takes place before TOS with very litte runway to use afterwards . Unless he thinks they can do multiple seasons that can take place in one or 2 years in Trek time.? 2264/65?

Yes I know this is a likely a pipe dream especially with the studio change happening. But let's asume this could still be a possibility with the new decision makers . Why make this play?

Is this plan a way to soften the blow on essentially wanting to do his version of TOS?. Bit of a bait and switch strategy ? >>Let's just do a 1 year mini series - still just a prequel to TOS. And if it's a big success, then parlay that fan goodwill to continue on and make a TOS 2.0.?

Im not dead against seeing some form of continuance for SNW characters . I'm just not sure his vision is the best way of doing it. Or we need more clarification on what exactly his plan is.

He wants to.

It's the ultimate in fan service; a fan doing what they want to do without thinking too much about "the play."

They can tell numerous stories before WNMHGB and between WNMHGB and the end of the five year missions. Few episodes of TOS happen concurrently.

Even from geeky fan perspective his vision doesn't make sense . Star Trek Year 1 doesn't sound like a sustainable TV show . what,...we are going to see multiple season of "Year 1". ? Yeah doesn't feel he's put much 3 dimensional thought to it.

Probably not.

Does he need to go to the fans with these things?

Picture your perfect Trek project. How sustainable is it? How many seasons? What characters do you want to see? How long are their stories?

News release to the Media.. Star Trek Year 1 announced

" Watch Star Trek Year 1's mult-year journey with Captain Kirk in his early days of taking command and all the in-between adventures that happened during his historic 5 year mission. "

I just don't see how you can pitch this to the new decision makers IMO.
