It's never too early for this! Now that the name is official, it's time to pic an "official(ish)" acronym for the show. Personally I'm biased towards STP. PIC I suppose is a good 2nd choice. PCR sounds weird. PRD stands for product requirements document and if you ever had to deal with those you would NOT want to be reminded of them Any other ideas?
Stone Temple Pilots? I'll probably just type it out. I gave up on abbreviations when Voyager was announced.
PIC If there's a Pike Series, and they call it Star Trek: Pike, I'm not bothering with an abbreviation of any kind. It'll just be PIKE if I'm too lazy to italicize Pike.
But are you talking about the show or the character? My confused little mind won't be able to decipher what people mean
It is TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, DIS, PIC. All three letter and most of them are a syllables. Randomly picking letters like DSC or PCD or PCR or PRD is stupid. For once you can't say them in one word, because they are lacking a vowel and it is easier to remember the first three letters than some randomly chosen from the middle of the word.
Do you actually say each of them as one word yourself? Would you say "Ting" or "Tang" or "Tong" for "TNG"? I would like to hear "DS9" pronounced in fewer syllables than "DSC."
Works for me. I am not too picky and would take STP too, though that is well outside of the conventions. PIC is too much like pic for picture/image, etc.
PCD rhymes with PCP. Or, if you go the other way: we can authoritatively say, "You're under arrest. I'm with the PCD."
"Ting," I believe, is the standard pronunciation of TNG, at least everytime I hear it (outside the few who go letter-by-letter for some reason). DS9 is two syllables ("Dees-Nine"), usually. I'm trying to use it with one syllable, but it doesn't work right. DSC is just one syllable ("Disc"), so it's impossible to go fewer.
