So to anyone who has played STO in the year long interim where I didn't, did the TrekBBS fleet disappear?
So to anyone who has played STO in the year long interim where I didn't, did the TrekBBS fleet disappear?
Haven’t played in ages, but from what I got from the existing STO threads, is that someone grabbed the fleet leadership at some point, kicked all the officers, renamed and integrated the fleet somewhere else.
Not sure how many original members are still in it.

Ah, I see. Well, that sucks.
Yeap it's long gone at this point, a few members here at the time wanted and asked to take over the fleet to stop this happening but the individual who had soul control of the fleet just did what they wanted with it and that was it, now it's part of one of those fleet collecting conglomerate groups were it is dead anyway, i think i saw two members on it in the last week.....but if you need fleet stuff there are plenty still going that are easy to join.
Of course there is nothing stopping us making a new TrekBBS fleet if its just to have a link to trekBBS and any returning TrekBBS sto members.

story is a bit more complicated than that, but after the 8th wing finished and completed out all of the old TrekBBS fleet holdings finished, the person in question that brought it into the 8th abruptly withdrew it without explanation or warning, purged the rosters and went his own way with it. Last I heard it was folded into UCDF or a new armada or something, but I'm not losing sleep over it.

I forgot to add, I had years ago created a TrekBBS chat channel which is open for folks to join in game to connect or reconnect. I still remember when TrekBBS flagged ships & captains flew in every instance on every map in the game.

I’ve played the game for many years and I still don’t understand the point of the fleets. Just feels like a place to spend Dilithium at and get nothing in return. 
Haven’t played in a while though. All these Doscovery missions sort of took me out of it. Might come back if they add any Lower Decks material

Fleets kinda fit a couple of roles, mainly to act as an extended friends of friends type list and a gigantic dilthium sink. A while back Fleet gear tended to be the better gear in the game, but that kinda feels like it was left to the wayside in favor of lockbox weapons. Fleet gear is pretty solid for the most part.
The Discovery missions wrapped up a while ago, they did a short Klingon Civil War arc which remastered the old klingon early missions too, but they're now starting a Mirror Universe arc using Leeta and other 2411 characters. It appears to borrow elements from the mirror universe books and comics too and mirror content is being remastered.

Fleet Credits and Fleet Holdings are still the only way to unlock certain extra slots for ground traits space traits and ship traits; as well as one extra ground boff and space boff slot. You also need Fleet credits if you want to purchase the fleet version of a c-store ship, and to have run Fleet projects that create the fleet ships to purchase.
Also at the upper tiers of the research lab holding, you can get crafting projects that both help you advance your crafting faster and generate a fair amount of Dilithium for the character running them.
So yeah fleets are far from useless oh, and more than just a Dilithium sink.
Gah, am prevaricating over which reward to choose for the Event Campaign. I've been after a couple of Fed and Rommie T6 Zen ships for a while, but then I CAN choose to buy those. So the single premium T6 choice is better as I don't spend Zen on lockboxes. But I'm only really taken with the Crossfield Spearhead or the Mirror Warship (basically Mirror Defiant as seen in schematic on DSC S1). The warship looks VERY good in terms of stats - am I missing something?
Have you opened it? You could try selling it at the exchange
Some fleet gear is also very good - if you have a cruiser, the hybrid Neutronium Hull/Turn Rate consoles from the fleet mine are a godsend as they are nearly as good at boosting ResAll as full Neutroniums AND you get a solid Turn Rate buff. And K-13 is pretty much your only real source for TOS-era space and ground weapons unless you hang about the Agents of Yesterday starting area excessively.
Fleet Impulse Engines used to be handy for the boost to Sector Space speed. But the Borg Assimilated Engine is easier to get and faster. Plus the advent of free mission transwarp has reduced the tedium of warping about, so it's only if you do Tour The Galaxy routinely you'd look at them.
