STO: Deep Space BBS and BBS Outpost - Starbase discussion

We have just built Shipyard I and several new projects have been unlocked, including the coveted "Upgrade Starbase I" project that will bring our starbase to operational status. We have also unlocked a project that will "Station a Tactical Officer" on our starbase who will supply the fleet with duty officer assignments as well as several military provisioning projects.

The short term goal is of course to get our starbase to tier 1. After that, I guess we'll be focusing our effort on bringing up our science department which unlocks the transwarp gate, and engineering department which unlocks the industrial fabricator.


Provisioning
As mentioned earlier, we have also unlocked several new provisioning projects. So what is Provisioning? We may have built a shipyard, but right now it is sitting empty. It does not have the materials required to build a new starship. We can run a provisioning project to supply the shipyard with enough materials to build 5 ships.

There are 3 types of provisioning projects we can run, namely Fleet Ship Provisioning, Operational Asset Provisioning and Buff Provisioning.

If you wish to buy a fleet ship, operational asset or buff, please drop a note in this thread so we can make arrangements to queue up the appropriate provisioning project for you. Also, please specify if the provisioning required is for the Federation Starbase or KDF Starbase.


Fleet Ship Provisioning
As its name implies, running a Fleet Ship Provisioning project will allow us to build 5 fleet ships. Once the Shipyard is provisioned, fleet members may use the shipyard to build up to 5 ships for a fee (See below). Currently our Shipyard is Tier 1 and is able to construct the following ships:

For 200,000 Fleet Credits you can build:
- Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (Stargazer class)
- Research Science Vessel Retrofit (Olympic class)

For 20,000 Fleet Credits and 4 Fleet Supply Modules you can build:
- Fleet Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (Stargazer class)
- Fleet Patrol Escort (Hermes class)
- Fleet Research Science Vessel Retrofit (Olympic class)
- Fleet Deep Space Science Vessel (Trident class)


Operational Asset Provisioning
Ever wish you can call in additional ships or additional manpower to help you out in the new fleet events? Now you can with Operational Assets. Operational Assets are an one-time only ability to call in support during the new fleet events. Each Operational Asset Provisioning Project allows fleet members to buy 10 operational assets. Operational Assets that we can currently call in include:

- Security Team
- Phaser Turret
- Peregrine Fighters
- Caitian Stalker Fighters
- Cruiser
- Starbase Spinal Lance


Buff Provisioning
Buffs provide a 4 hour increase to all your skills in one category. For example, a Fleet Military Skill Boost buff will grant a boost to all the following personal skills:

- Space Skills: Starship Attack Patterns, Starship Weapons Training, Starship Energy Weapons, Starship Projectile Weapons, Starship Maneuvers, Starship Targeting Systems, Starship Stealth, Starship Threat Control, Starship Energy Weapon Specialization, Starship Projectile Weapon Specialization
- Ground Skills: Grenades, Weapon Proficiency, Combat Specialist, PS Generator, Special Forces, Threat Control, Squad Command, Willpower, Advanced Tactics, Combat Armor

Just a quick update: Construction work on the Starbase is complete!

The next task is to station a tactical officer who will give out duty officer assignments. After that we will be constructing our Transwarp Gate. In 13 hours, we will be ready to start work on our first set of 5 fleet ships and complete the final 2 engineering projects that will unlock the Industrial Replicator.

July 26 Update:

The limited time "Starbase Interior Decorator" is stuck behind the current special project, "Coordinate Colonization Efforts". So we'll have to complete the colonization project before we can start working on decorating on our starbase.

Thanks to everyone's hard work, we now have a tactical officer permanently stationed on our starbase. She can be found on the tactical deck.
 
July 29 Update:

* Shipyard - Ready to build 5 fleet ships
* Communications Array - Built. Advanced Personal Shields now on sale
* Interior Design - Completed. Plants! Who's going to water them?
* Transwarp Gate to Vulcan - In progress
* Station Science Duty Officer - Queued after Transwarp gate
* Engineering Tier I - Almost there, 1 more engineering project to go
 
I've gotten back into playing STO. A lot of new things going on. I'm still a little confused about this starbase business, but am I free to contribute to any project, or is there something specific we want to get done first?
 
August 4 Update:

* Transwarp Gate built! You can now transwarp directly to our starbase.
* Industrial Fabricator I - The final piece of our Tier I starbase is almost ready, we just need 2 more engineers.
* Stationing Science and Engineering Duty Officers on the starbase will be our next task

For your info, we will be stocking up on provisions since they are much cheaper at Tier I. We currently have enough provisions for 10 fleet ships and are working on more.

August 5 Update:

I just figured out how to use the transwarp gate. You need to move your ship close to the gate and a dialog will popup. Right now we can only transwarp to Sirius Sector Block, near Vulcan. Kinda pointless, but might be useful in the future when more destinations are unlocked.

I don't kno how you decide for Deep Space BBS, but Phoenix Station is not going for a Tribble infestation.

The new special cosmetic upgrade really is a bit meh.

Would be cool, if we could turn the cosmetic features on and off, though. Then it would have actual RP value to have Cyrano Jones' grea-great-grandson on the station trying to sell tribbles.
 
I agree. Unless there's some awesome perk we haven't been told about yet or the project costs considerably less than the others, I don't think we should bother.
 
I'm saying nay to tribbles too.

Btw, little secret here... You can contribute doffs from ANY faction to the starbase. That's right, it doesn't matter if its a Federation doff or a KDF doff. Both will work until Cryptic catches wind of this.

Warning:
An insidious stealth change was added to the most recent patch. All duty officers purchased from the fleet starbase CANNOT be contributed to any fleet project. What's worse is that people are now dumping these duty officers on the exchange and there is no way to distinguish between normal duty officers and base-purchased duty officers.

So if you're thinking of buying a duty officer for contribution to the starbase, don't do it. There's a good chance it will be a tainted duty officer.

There goes the prices on duty officers. Time to find something else to make money with.
