unfortunate in that its not ready for HD!! Its the most beautiful DVD set I have EVER seen, but I prob won't buy it because I want to get the remastered version that I am sure must come out eventually.

I agree it looks great but paramount is more than likely going to remaster TNG, and when that happens I'm online for that set

I'm fine with the weak, cheesy effects from earlier episodes and the general modelwork and the early CGI, just like I remember them.

Never discount nostalgia. ;)

Its not bad effects I'm worried about....remember the videotape effects work will NOT stand up to HD viewing! Lines and artifacts will be visible. The FX are usualyl passable to great in STNG. In at least two cases, recent early episodes I've watched (Where No One Has Gone Before, Lonely Among Us) didn't have ONE bad effect....and yet all of them would have to be redone for HD.

I kind of wonder if the live action footage that was transferred to video along with the effects would stand up to hi-def as well. I've always looked forward to having the filmed live action footage released from the somewhat-grainy effect (that I can see on my standard television) of being transferred to video.

It's great to see the US getting a beautiful looking set at last. More substantial than those cardboard boxes R1 had the first time around.

^ Over here in R2, TNG had clamshell cases which I loved. Very 24th Century looking...

So I'm in no rush to buy again, at least until CBS proves TNG can go hi-def...

I threw away the packaging from my TNG disc sets (along with all other Trek series DVDs I own). I hated having to open up all those package flaps. So I put all the discs into these new cases which are much easier to open (and more compact as well).

^ I can appreciate your point but I try not to watch Trek at random, so I've never found the storage containers a problem. I generally keep a set of Ammary cases handy and transfer them temporarily for a few weeks, while I work my way through a season. Then put them back for many months. I'm currently into TOS S2 again at the weekends. Depends on how often you rewatch, I guess. I found Enterprise S3/4 the most pain to open, having dipped into those a lot.

I'm not stressin' about the new DVDs - I already have all seven seasons of TNG on my shelf, along with the three seasons of TOS, the TAS box set & the first three seasons of DS9.

Wait... shouldn't someone named od0_ital have ALL the seasons of DS9 at his disposal? Quick...we need to take up a collection. :bolian:

I've been looking at TNG DVDs for a while now, probably settling on a used set as many of them have a lot of unwatched DVDs in them anyway....it looks as if the bootleggers are already using the image of this new set to sell their assimilated wares...

I noticed the total running time is 357 minutes shorter on the new set. Maybe the new set doesn't have the interviews.

Well apart from there being a beardless Riker on one of the disc images, the man should hever be fur face-less ;-) I already have the fantastic region 4 disc packs that came as hard plastic cases, they look great and don't fade or wear as cardboard does ;-)

Am hoping that when the remastered version do occur that they won't charge like they did for the first release.

Good luck with that TNG remastered will be their next gold mine

Actually, over on Amazon, it says the new set has six MORE minutes than the old set, 49 discs 8085 mins total (new set) vs 48 discs 8079 minutes total (old set). Not sure how accurate those figures are, just reporting what I read there. What was your source of info? I've been itching to get the STNG complete set for a long time, but still not sure if I will get it since a remastered HD set may be on the horizon soon. I'm going to wait until I hear more details about this set before deciding, maybe it's been digitally remastered.

Ebay listing (Zion Trading Post) has it 7722 minutes.

I also found an R2 version that says 7231 minutes, which is a hundred bucks less, with free shipping, that one might be a bootleg.

I see the Amazon listing...I dunno...it stands to reason there will be something new or different in the extras on the new release. I guess we won't know for sure till 10/2.
