I love the way this looks. It sort of reminds me of Vulcan ship design in canon (minus the warp ring).

You know, he's right. It's not just the colour, the angular shapes are very Vulcan. Maybe you should paint it red. Make it a 24th-century Vulcan ship.

Decked out in Vulcan livery-- including the Vulcan font for any words-- instead of the standard Starfleet markings.

For my two cents, I like the idea of starships commissioned by the Federation or Starfleet that are still only built using one race's technology and aesthetic style. Speculation follows:

I assume that going forward from the Constitution-Refit era that the engineering and design teams in Starfleet become more and more diverse, and so by the 24th century the starship design aesthetic is a "melting pot" of input from dozens of different worlds.

Within the UFP there are probably still ships that in design and construction are native almost exclusively to engineering teams of specific planets. These ships might serve as system defense or in special expeditionary and research fleets commissioned by their home world and outside the direct Starfleet chain of command.

Ships of this nature would probably fly the flag of the UFP and their homeworld, but not the flag of starfleet; thus they might have a few "UFP" standard registries mixed in with more prominent markings in the crew's native tongue.

Those highlighters look like they were made for this ship. I really like the sharp-angled design of this one.

Now that I can see the pics - looks good, John! That'll be a very nice addition to your 'bashed fleet.

Tanks, Jeff!

I had to lose the white plastic superstructure. It was 1/8 sheet plastic stress-bent over the curve of the saucer. The red kit plastic is funky and brittle, and the glue wasn't holding. Gotta come up with something else.

I understand. Plastic putty drives me up the wall. I reconfigured an Excelsior and used a tonne of putty, and found it to be such a pain.

The neat thing about the fibreglass bondo, as opposed to putty, is that it's surprisingly easy to carve (before fully curing), and to sand with a dremel. It doesn't chip or crack, and you can manipulate the curing time.

Anyway- it was just an idea. Can't wait to see what you come up with though!

Base coat of RLM76 Blue, no further detaling painting yet:

Lots to do yet, but she's taken shape.

Looking good, John.

The extra large engines make her look as if she were built for speed.

I like it. Now that circle above the shuttle bay. Is that a torp. launcher or something else?

I'm still trying to figure that out!

It's pointing up, so torp launcher is out. I'm thinking that's an aft phaser, but it doesn't match the type-10 phaser strips on the saucer. Maybe it's just a docking umbilical.

The component containing the docking umbilical, combined with the shuttlebay doors underneath, reminds me of the head of Ray Harryhausen's Cyclops. :)
