Stephen King + The Walking Dead?

It’s been mentioned that the freelance writing method may be employed for the series’ second season, and now we know just who might get in on the action. EW has confirmed that horror author Stephen King has been tapped to write an episode for the series. King revealed the news himself saying that Darabont “has expressed enthusiastic interest for season 2 or possibly 3.”

Does this indicate they intend to veer away from the Comic Storyline more? I've never read the comics, but, it's my understanding most of the first season came from the comics, and alot of was very faithful to the flow of the story.

This could be a very good thing if it's an early to mid-Season episode. I've always felt Stephen King has great story ideas, and can build a story better than most.

However, it seems, more often than not, he doesn't know how to end a story, so, I'd be a little nervous if he was given the Season Finale.

Well, it's sort of based on the comics. If I remember right, the whole thing with the CDC in the season finale was not in the comics (I recall reading an article somewhere that had Kirkman noting that he didn't realize the CDC was in Atlanta or he would have done it in the comics first).

Yes, and also, there's some stuff from further along in the comics, then where S1 ended, I believe. But, from what I understand, most of it is indeed in the comics

Kirkman also has stated in interviews that Daryl Dixon is his favorite character from the series and he wants to add the character into the comics later on.

BTW am I the only who notices that the WD TV series has a real "Lost with Zombies" vibe?

In each you have:

Spoiler: walking dead and lost

Hero who wakes up to unspeakable carnage and tries to help lead the survivors but keeps making some serious, if well intentioned mistakes.

Hero's love interest who vacillates between hero and the bad boy who may or may not have a heart of gold.

The aforementioned bad boy.

Old guy who believes in faith and everything having a purpose.

African-American who lost his wife, is separated from the other survivors and obsessed with protecting his son.

A group of mysterious others who turn out not to be what they seem.

A guy living underground in a bunker, obsessed with making sure that time doesn't run out.

Etc.

I'm fine with it, as long as it still feels like one continuous story. I wouldn't want it to be like some crazy "Stephen King" episode done in a totally different style (like they often did on X-Files when some high-profile writer or director would come along).

Heh, about the "LOST with Zombies" comment, my Lover and I both said the same thing while watching the fist episode of Walking Dead

I think those similarities are just due to standard tropes in fiction and selective attention. Try listing all the ways the series are not the same. One takes place in an unknown location, the other is in Atlanta. The main Asian guy in one is married with his wife in the cast; the other is single, no romance on the horizon (yet). The kid in one has magic powers; the kids in the other are just normal kids. Etc.

I might change my mind when the Zombie Smoke Monster appears.
