Stop giving people false hope Dukhat!
I'm curious to see what they are doing. I am hoping since we seem to have multiple crews and multiple Klingon leaders we are going to have a show with many moving cogs. Political maneuverings, exploration, and yes a bit of some pew pew. It al depends on how they present it.
Will it be more like Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country with contemporary political themes or will it end up like "Game of Thrones in Space" with the many different factions/ships/characters infighting? Or will it be a bit of both? Will we have to wait and see. Either way color me intrigued.

Everything cycles, so I don't believe you're right to say never - but, it may be a while.
I don't know, but I hope if there *are* politics, they're handled like Star Trek VI or the recent Kiefer Sutherland series, "Designated Survivor" - and not like the stupid Castithan crap in the failed Syfy series "Defiance". And if it's SERIOUS in tone, I hope it achieves it like VI did, and not like "Stargate Universe".
I've got mixed feelings about this...
On one hand, just about all of my favorite current shows follow the 10-13 episode, serialized format. I actually really enjoy this brand of storytelling. The episodes build on each other, and it really does kind of feel like a book-on-screen, with every episode being a chapter. And If they are making DSC to fit into the Prime Timeline (at least narratively), a serialized story might actually make it easier do so without totally stepping on established canon. Also, if the rumored budget-per-episode is anywhere close to being true, DSC has the potential to be a Game of Throne-like show, at least in regards to production value and storytelling. I'm really eager to see what they come up with.
But on the other hand, I'd love some 'new' old-school adventure-of-the-week Star Trek. One of my favorite things about TOS and TNG is that I can, for the most part, throw in any episode I want at any time and not be lost because it's a self-containing story. If someone told me that I could have 13 new stand-alone Star Trek adventures, I'd be in heaven.
I guess my official stance is that I want to actually see a few episodes of DSC before I write it off.

I think there will be an element of 'story of the week'. It's sheer speculation on my part, but I'd bet Discovery would be based more on the BSG format than anything else. It was a complete story, overruling arc's etc, but each episode was it's own.
the Netflix generation absorbs shows all at once, and thats fine and if Disco was going to be launched in the same'all at once' way, I'd be more inclined to see it as one overall story split into chunks. But with it being clear it's launched on a week by week basis, I can see the serialised aspect split in the same way BSG was. Maybe even the way Supernatural is.

I'm in a similar boat. I'm sure the show is going to be good, and it's probably be going to be an intense ride for 10 episodes.
But to me Trek has always also been about light escapist fun. Some episodes have always been intense and dramatic but just spending 45 mins with our favorite characters and having fun with then is fine with me, too.
I did like the occasional Holodeck episode in TNG. I liked that with 26 episodes per season you have room to just try something different once in a while. With just 10 episodes you're basically forced to stay real focused because every episodes "counts".
I don't doubt that Discovery could be really good. But is it what I want? I'm not sure. I guess I'd prefer it to be 16-20 episodes and have them take their time to do something silly once in a while. But hey, they're going to make the show they want to make and that's okay.
I regret to inform you that the master files of the show vanished in 2024, together with the Flash (according to Eobard Thawne...)
If it follows the serialized format [99% sure it will], it doesnt mean it will be all super-serious episodes. Not sure why everyone thinks it's going to have the same tone/feel as GoT? If you look in the other casting threads, they have a lighthearted & silly minor character coming on from TOS [don't want to spoil it for others]. So it looks like, to me anyway, that there will be some traditional fun Trek thrown in.

I can't help but think of all the "planet of the week" episodes we saw in TOS, TNG and even the other shows where we in the community would be left going "hey, you just visited a society with massive potential for thing X, why not re-visit it?" and we would be left hanging to wait for a novel or fanfic to follow up on it.
Maybe DSC is going to take that route, something is discovered on one or more planetary visits that sets off a big issue and we follow that issue?

I like Trek when it deals with politics. And I certainly do not thinks of wars when I say that.
I never minded Trek politics, but once again I must point out Paramount research has always shown Trekkies do not like it, so I hope its balanced.
I think we are going to see brinkmanship and possibly parallels to current politics that leads to it.
I'm thinking if Paramount disagreed with Fuller on just how much political commentary was on the show it was to keep it to more of an adventure and broader appeal. It remains to be seen.

DS9 is my favorite show, and another series in its vein would please me greatly. But I have room in my heart for the other shows, too. Quite a bit of room for a couple of them. Whatever shape Discovery takes, I'll just be happy to see more Trek. Unless, of course, it is truly dire. But in 28 seasons, only 2 have really felt mediocre to me, and even mediocrity can improve if given the chance.
I just don't understand, why exactly is "exploration" translated as "planet-of-the-week" ? You could very easily base half a season of drama on exploring any number of things. The expedition in question could be one episode and the results of that expedition could spawn a half dozen plot threads, both related to characters and to all kinds of political or social shenanigans. It doesn't have to be that every week is go-here-do-this kind of thing.
Think about "The Cage" for example. What if The Cage was actually Episode 2... or even later into the run of a Star Trek series? There are many references and little touches referencing the events that occurred prior, on Rigel VII. Spock and Tyler are both injured, Pike is dealing with the stress of it all. Those events on Rigel are there own separate elements, but in a modern format, those could be examples of continuing character-related threads from the previous story into the next. The two stories end up reverberating off each other in a rather harmonious way.
