Starship Farragut: The Animated Episodes Questions

Yeah...that is the question of the day. There are a few good things about doing an animated episode...the audio is separate from the video. In other words, we were able to put an edit together for sound and music without having all of the artwork completed. That is the good news. Act1 is 'done' with regard to sound and music, and literally needs only 3 more 'head shots' completed before we call this 100% done. Act 2 just went to sound and music, and the are a few head shots on that one needing completion as well. Act 3 (the final act) is 90% edited, and I expect to be done with that within the next week or so.

Since this is a volunteer effort I really hate to give a specific time as it puts pressure on those folks who are helping. However, if everything goes as I plan and Act 3 comes back before the end of July, we can probably do a release at that time. We may be showing Act 1 at Shoreleave in Maryland next month, and we should be well and done before DragonCon in September (May even have a trailer for the next episode by then).

Thanks for your patience. These are coming along nicely, and I think everyone will enjoy them when they are released.

Thanks for letting us know. Be sure and have a nice big spash when they are ready for distribution.

We switched things up this week with another guest-star image. This time it is Jason LeBlanc who plays captain Aaron Glenn on the episode of Power Source. Jason is from Dallas, Texas and has a very distinctive voice. You may have heard him if you local to Dallas, or if you are ever on hold with companies like Comcast or Time Warner.

Also available this week, we have opened a shop to allow fans to purchase shirts featuring the NEO f/x logo. We will be doing the same for the Animated Episodes, but include more items including the official movie poster. More on that later...if you are interested in helping NEO f/x with their efforts, make your way to http://www.cafepress.com/NEO_FX

Finally, some additional good news...we have completed the edit for Act 3 of Power Source and will be vetting it to our internal folks this week. It is by no means done...there are still animations that we need, but the time consuming part of setting up the edit is completed, and once sound and music are done, we will be very close to releasing it.

Enjoy!

For this week's update, we have something different. We have opened an online store to allow fans to purchase items related to the new Starship Farragut-The Animated Episodes. For legal reasons, the items we are selling do not make any reference to Star Trek or even show the ship (which some may consider copyright material as well). These will basically be Starship Farragut logo and character shirts, all of which are original creations of Farragut Films. The item I think most people will want is the official movie poster. This 22x35 poster is perfect to bring to conventions and get signed by the cast.

Also on the site is a way fans can have our Associate Producer create an original 'head shot' of you. While it is based on TAS, he uses original backgrounds not found in the show. Finally, we have NEO f/x merchandise and also a neat little novelty; custom made View-Masters with our 2009 demo reel. For a limited time we are including a Starship Farragut reel with the purchase of the View-Master.

All of these can be found at http://www.farragut-animated.com/store.html

Finally, for those of you going to Shore Leave in Maryland this weekend, we will be showing Act 1 of Power Source there. Come take a look and enjoy what we will believe will be a great summer for Starship Farragut.

The viewmasters are REALLY cool. I wish we could actually do the episodes like this, in 3 D.

I hope everyone got to stop by Shore Leave this weekend and check out Act 1 of Power Source. We made the preliminary file available to a few online review sites, and here is the first one to do a write up:

http://www.fastcopyinc.com/orionpress/reviews/power_source_1.htm

So, the obvious question is ....WHEN? I have a goal of next Monday to release Act 1...I will update everyone as we get closer to that date to verify its availablity.

I liked the tricky texturing thing you did with the planets in the opening credits. And animated Carter fits his chair noticably better than animated Kirk did.

While this is a tribute to TAS, we did take MANY opportunities to 'fix' some things that even as a kid I noticed. Like how the rear colored monitors above the stations would change (Like communications..sometimes it would be blue, sometimes orange). Or how people's ranks change mid-episode or even the color of their uniforms. In those areas, everything will be consistent from scene-to-scene.

Everyone...

It has been a long road, but we are ready to start releasing Power Source.

In celebration of the July 20th moon landing, Act1 will be released 8 am on 7/20/09.

Act 2 will be released August 3rd (same time), and Act 3 will be released either August 24th or 31st...depending on the artists.

I will update this thread throughout this week on where to go and what to do to download/view the first act.

I appreciate everyone's patience with this, and I think it will be worth the wait!!!

Sounds good. I do have a question since I saw Act 1 at Shore Leave. I understood that the Farragut only has humans in its crew. If so, what's the obvious Andorian doing there (and don't say sitting)?????

Randy,

The stardate of the animated episodes puts it in 'Year 4' of the Star Trek universe...this is counter to the Year 2/3 that the live action episodes take place.

Thelin is actually a character from the original Trek episodes. In "Yesteryear" some time changes had Thelin as the first officer on the Enterprise. When the timeline is restored, Thelin is not seen again. However, he MUST have existed, and so we theorized that he was probably in Star Fleet and he could be on any ship. So, we have him on the Farragut. He is actually voiced by Chris Doohan, son of James "Scotty" Doohan, who voiced Thelin in the 70's.

And, just like Chekov in Space Seed...just because you haven't seen Thelin on the Farragut doesn't mean he wasn't in a different location of the ship during the first couple episodes. In fact, when live-action episodes start filming again, I wouldn't be surprised to see him again.

So, to answer your question...he is sitting there ;)
