Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Drexler purposely designed the NX-01 to look less advance than TOS.

The exposed machinery and parts, non-flush hull panelling, visible rivets etc. were all things he thought made it look less advance that the TOS Connie.
I honestly think that some TOS purist would have preferred the NX-01* looked like something like the C-57D or something similar.

*Yes, I'm aware that many TOS purist simply wished the NX-01 didn't exist at all.

Back in the day I had hoped for a stylized Daedelus class, but ultimately I've grown to accept the NX-01 in its own way
Count me in as a fan of the various fan updated Daedalus' out there.

I especially love the version by "Madkoifish"

And "Aethernaut"

I still like the think of the Daedalus as humanities version of a Romulan War "Victory Ship". A ship that Earth could pump out in mass numbers that was simple and easy to build, unlike the NX Class.

Pretty much what was written in the books. Produce 3-4 in the time of 1 NX. What I didn't Like was it was an old design that was updated with latest tech.
I'd rather the original simple version.

The TOS configuration of the Daedalus-class is referenced in SNW. One of the two frosted, backlit ship displays as you enter Pike's Ready Room has the U.S.S. Essex talked about in "Power Play(TNG)" and the ship appears to be an externally unchanged Daedalus that copies the design seen in Sisko's office on DS9.

I think we probably have to take Matalas at his word, since you don't have any evidence to the contrary.

You’re welcome to take Matalas at his word. I never said you couldn’t. I, however, choose not to.

Oh, I dunno..... in my eyes, they're pretty much perfect as ships meant to post-date and pre-date these two beauties...

Opinions may vary.

To my eyes, both designs look like they predate the TOS Enterprise.

Ohh I didn't know we were given production art of them.

Looks to be based off the Eaglemoss CG model to me. The trench around the sphere, the docking port, and even the positioning light below the docking port

The model in Sisko's office didn't have those details

I could tell this one was a TOS-style Daedalus from the outlines we could see in episodes but until I saw this graphic I had no idea it was the Essex and listed its Captain.
