Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Or, as was already known, they only had a week to create the VFX for the final episode, but I’m sure Dekovic didn’t want to mention that.
Shhh! Don't confuse the issue with facts!

I honestly don't really mind the big fleet scene in the Picard finale, but for two purely selfish and mercenary reasons:
  1. When I buy the Eaglemoss ships, I'll only need to get two or three, not twenty
  2. When I update the SSDB with the new official designs, see above - 2 or 3, not 20
:D

Good news, guys! I just looked it up, and apparently we can buy our own horse for an initial purchase price of between $1,500.00-$3,000.00 and a really good whip for between $200.00-$350.00, for a total maximum cost of about $3,350.00. If we all chip in, that's only $372.22 each!

I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll say it again. I didn’t have a problem with the copy-paste fleet, because they were just meant to be generic ships. I’m just glad they made new designs rather than reusing DSC ships. But I would have at least liked Riker’s ship to have been different from the others.

Yeah the fleet didn't bother me either, I did check very carefully for Rikers ship expecting it to be larger or a variant to no avail, its tactically smart as an opposing fleet won't know which ship is the command ship.

Seemed to me that the fleet is a mass produced rapid response force possibly crewed by holograms, it would make sense after the Dominion War and attack on Mars.

I think they knew they would never get away with using DSC ship designs from a show set over 100 years earlier.

I don't think it's asking that much to have three new ship designs created, that could then be used for future seasons as well. Ideally ones that aren't as ugly as the one we were given but that's asking a lot with Eaves, and obviously a subjective opinion.

The Bird of Prey was awesome. The Romulan fighters around the captured Borg Cube were also pretty cool. What was up with the warbirds? They looked like little fighter ships. Where were the massive Warbirds of TNG/DS9 and Nemesis? For that matter, why couldn't the Romulan Star Empire evacuate their own people? Starfleet should have at least used the Enterprise and Admiral Picard's relocation ship to do what they can with the transport fleet destroyed. Two ships is better than nothing.

1) do some simple math
2) read the tie in comic

Simply saying "do the math" does not address the questions I proposed considering. What was the population of Romulus and Remus? How many Romulan ships did the Empire have? How many passengers could be packed into each ship? How long did the Empire know about the supernova? My point is that if Starfleet can construct transport ships... why couldn't the Romulans use their entire fleet for evacuation? Why couldn't they build their own transport fleet?

The Romulans rival the Federation and the Klingons, but they can't recall their ships and evacuate one planet?

I don't read comic books. I don't read novels based on TV shows. To me, it's glorified fanfiction.

Research then........or you just want someone who has done all the work to explain it to you? I don't read comics either, but I DID to get more backstory so I would understand things a bit better. Doing the math requires you to answer those questions, find those numbers, and then do some division. You want the answers but can't be bothered to find them yourself.

OK screw it, here's the deal.........not enough time and not enough ships. The Earth currently has 8 Billion people (7.7 as of 2019) so lets say each ship can hold the max for a Galaxy Class start ship which is 15,000 per Memory Alpha..........That's 533,333 ships that you would need. Of course that's each ship doing once sorte. Say a fleet of 100,000 doing 4.5 turnarounds each. Or 50,000 ships doing 9. Point is.........you need an ASSLOAD of ships. Much more than ANY fleet I've heard of.

One, the Romulans evacuated some, likely leader. Two, the state of their fleet would be limited after a war and coup. Three, Starfleet was not willing due to lack of ships, and Federation members threatening to leave.

It's Star Trek. This is a franchise where a starship named Enterprise is often the only ship that can handle an emergency and on at least one occasion the only one in the entire quadrant.

The logic of a Trek film or small-screen plot is often as ironclad as the plot demands. And that's often not.
