Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

I’m not missing the point at all. You think that the DSC ships being used for the rescue fleet is completely plausible, and I find it to be completely implausible. QED.

Okay. I'm not sure I follow why you keep talking about periods of time after the Mars Attack when rebutting my argument then.

Factions in Starfleet and the Federation were looking for an excuse to abandon the rescue due to it being a political hot potato (not surprising really as the Romulan's have made a lot of enemies over the centuries), the Commodore's attack on Mars gave them something even better than an excuse, it gave them a reason and they took it.

Everything said afterwards by Clancy is just Starfleet doubling down on their mistake, they were fooled but only because it ultimately suited them at the time so they didn't question it fully, no doubt the Commodore played her part in ensuring that any investigation was fatally flawed from the start.

Starfleet and the Federation didn't care enough to follow it up and could have provided at least some ships if they had really wanted to.

I like Clancy's character but how on earth she can keep her job after this is beyond me, by all rights she should jump before she is pushed, the buck ultimately stops with her, that is why she gets to sit in the big chair.

Was Clancy in the same position when the Mars attack occurred, though? If not, then what would she be fired for?
Not sure, I know she was a Captain sometime prior to the attack (I havent read the books/comics), its also possible that she gained her position due to the attack on Mars as Captain to Starfleet Commander in Chief is a big jump in less than ten years, would be good to find out exactly when she was promoted and why.

Perhaps we will get to see some more background on the fallout of the attack, they may just decide to move forward instead.

Truth be told having a Romulan spy as Chief of Security is probably enough, I don't expect her to actually be sacked as this is Star Trek after all, she does get brownie points for sending all those ships though.

I would very much like to know exactly how long the Commodore was in that position and who promoted her as well.

We may never find that sort of information out though.

The buck stops with Clancy, will be interesting to see if the fallout is covered at all in S2.

But if Oh was in her position before Clancy was CINC, she couldn't really be held responsible for that either.

Even if Oh was in place before Clancy became the Starfleet Commander, there's a decent argument to be made that Clancy perpetuated the security breach by continuing not to detect her.

It's incredibly common in the real world for agency directors and such to be required to fall on their swords after a major slip-up like this, even if it isn't directly their fault. If only because the civilian leadership is not gonna trust them going forward since they failed to detect the breach.

It stinks of Necheyev.

It would be nice to know exactly when Clancy and the Commodore were originally promoted to their current positions.

Someone has to take the fall, the first time it was Picard but everyone now knows that he was right all along.

From a drama perspective it would add an extra dimension to the show but it remains to be seen if it will even be referenced again, especially as the show only has 10 episodes a season.
