Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

image0.png

So I guess they changed the Borg cube forcefield from blue to green now...kinda was digging the blue look to be honest, but the green does make it look proper.
It was changed a month or so back, it was green in a trailer.

I don’t think that shuttle is an Argo type; it looks more like the standard shuttle used in the Star Trek ‘09 Kelvin universe movie.

This would be the first time a Kelvin universe asset was used in the Prime universe, albeit over a century after it was used in the Kelvin universe. Of course, this might take into account the idea that Kelvin Universe Starfleet reverse-engineered the info gained from the scans of the 24th century prime universe Narada and would explain why the 23rd century Kelvin universe looks so much more advanced than TOS. But then DSC screws that up royally...

Those tugs are interesting looking. A nice homage to FJ's design without being a total rip.

And, of course, they're sporting Eaves' signature Excelsior-style dorsal impulse deck fins that he loved to put on nearly all his DISCO models.

I think it could be either - but I'd stop short of calling the Kelvin one a "standard shuttle". We never see it again after the bits where it ferries folks for Starfleet Academy. Its fancy short nacelles on the upper corners might make it a short range barge rather than a proper shuttle for all we know; ST:ID returns to a more "standard" starship auxiliary.

Of course, a surface-to-orbit barge would be perfect for this PIC scene.

A cool one, that.

FWIW, seems the DSC shuttles are being used unaltered, not shortened or rounded or anything. Which is fine with the applications shown: looks like 1950s taxi cabs on the streets of Havana in 2020...

The preview for next week's episode, shows a hologram of the DSC Enterprise next to the Enterprise-D in Starfleet Command

Eaves designed both shuttles IIRC.

Some surprised no one is talking about the Romulan ships

It's so dumb. I absolutely love it!:guffaw:

Seriously though, I think the DIS shuttles fit much, much better into the 24th century than the 23rd anyway. Same for lots of other ship designs. I'm absolutely fine with their re-use here.
I would agree with you if it weren't for the TOS style bussards.

You’re right, the shuttles were only used to transport Kirk and McCoy to the nuEnterprise. And while the Argo and the Kelvin universe shuttle bears a passing resemblance, I’m pretty sure it’s the shuttle we’re seeing here.

So it seems that if it wasn’t before, the TOS Enterprise has been officially retconned out of existence.

I'm still holding out hope that it was what the TOS-E looked like before it underwent an extensive refit prior to setting out on its next five year mission. I know that The Cage invalidates this, but I'll chalk that up to Talosian mental manipulation.
