Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Not to my knowledge, sadly. I know he said one of the changes was going back to the previously very clear "aztec" paneling from the refit, -A and -D, etc.

Okuda was briefly, as is Andy Probert and Rick Sternbach for a spell. I don't think we've ever seen John Eaves, nor Doug Drexler or the others involved with ship design, as far as I know.

The (non-canon) TNG Technical Manual once said the galaxy class had an anticipated service life of 100 years..

I think that's a bit generous, but barring any fundamental flaws in the Sovereign class design, I don't see why 50-60 years wouldn't be realistic for such an inherently powerful design as we saw it in FC/Ins/Nem.

Its certainly possible that the E is still in use, it is getting to the point of being superseded though, you can only upgrade platforms so much.

We may even see the Refit version which would be a nice bonus.

From what I have seen here the Discoprise and D are shown but not the E, would make sense if its still in service.

That's what I saw also...Discoprise, swipe to the D. Now granted it didn't go Discoprise/-A/-B...but the change was intentional. It was to establish Discovery as the prime timeline and the D because it's the time frame that Picard longs for, I imagine in his mind as when Starfleet was the most noble and true, before the Dominion War, etc.

I always thought we were robbed not getting to see the D have multiple crews across decades.

Maybe we'll get lucky and see some established Galaxy class ships..the Venture or the Galaxy. The last time we saw Galaxy herself she was getting holes punched into her at Chintoka

You mean like TNG suddenly saying Earth has been 'Utopian' for centuries; and that the Federation NEVER used "Money" (the MANY examples from then 79 episodes of TOS to the contrary)?
Like Kirk asking Spock if he knows how much the Federation has invested in him and he goes on to begin to mention an exceptionally large number..

Obviously it's a currency.

The only reason it was ignored in TNG is because Roddenberry liked to imagine a moneyless society that had uncompromising altruistic values about working only for the furthering of humanity and ignoring such base institutions like financial gain.

Yet Riker openly held latinum in his account with Quark, but lol what does that matter.

Yeah, just like that. Is that just the same old, “They can build a mosque in my racist town when they build a church in Mecca” argument, or do you have a more intelligent point? Just because someone did it doesn’t mean it should be done over and over. Stop using that as a crutch.

What crutch? You're the one trying to claim "The Production Teams ignore what came before because they're lazy/don't care..."

So, yeah, I guess GR didn't really give a s**t about what fans had found appealing enough in TOS and in reruns and spawning feature films for 18 years before he foisted TNG on the world...

or maybe i's just that times change; and a production team wants to create something that touches on what came before but take it in a new direction they feel will reach a modern audience and bring in new fans.

Some things definitely deserve to be updated with the times. No doubt about that. But that doesn’t explain the majority of the changes in Discovery, and you’re lying to yourself if you think it does. Similarly, just because TNG had unnecessary changes doesn’t make Discovery’s less unnecessary. That is all. The two tired arguments from Discovery apologists:
1) Oh, I guess you want crappy plastic models, lol!
2) Oh, I guess you want them to be as consistent with the Klingons as they were between TOS and TUC, lol!
Come on. No one is saying either of those things. But there is an order of magnitude difference in S1 of Discovery. And that’s exactly why they tried so hard to undo it all in S2. We all get it. Even the producers get it. Only Discovery apologists don’t.

There's nothing wrong with "change for change's sake," since that's a matter of opinion rather than fact.

So yes, it should be done over and over.

Folks should stop using "unless there's a valid reason for it" as a crutch to prop up personal opinion.
