Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Alec Peters’s ’speaking for his fans’ doesn’t really count here.
Not talking Peter's. Talking all the fans I saw clamoring for this to be made, from Axanar to the Pike fan film, saying if Discovery used that aesthetic it would be better Trek.

That's when I realized the stories didn't matter; just recreate the past and people will blindly accept it. Or, enough people, rather.

Which is funny when you consider the sets they did build for Axanar look more modern than the TOS Bridge. Heck the main ship looks more advanced than the Enterprise, and that series is set pre-launch of the Constitution.
Touchscreen consoles on the bridge. A TMP style bridge dome and deflector dish. CG shots ripped straight from the Kelvin movies (Rising up from a nebula, a ship crashing into a city etc) More torpedo tubes than any other ship, negating the entire need for the Constitution-class in story... but hey. Their fans just heard "trUE trEK nOT jAR JaR JaYbRAmS" and gave away their money. Bless their hearts.

And they used modified ST09 ships as background ships. Only differences being the scale, no bridge window and Ares style nacelles

The sets did too. Thus putting the lie to the claim they needed to "update" anything for modern audiences.

The definition of irony is citing an episode produced eighteen years and three presidents ago as any kind of evidence of what modern audiences will go for.

"In A Mirror, Darkly, Parts I & II" are almost as old today as "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was when "Encounter At Farpoint" aired. Just three years to go.

The sets also looked terrible for 2005. Great recreations, but that's it.
They needed to be updated for SNW since it was a full series looking to bring in new audiences not just the old.
Yeah, it’s fine for a fun, goofy nostalgia episode where it’s part of the joke, but not something that would work weekly.

Yeah. I'm happy with the way SNW has reimagined the period. The recreations worked in specific situations like on DS9 and Enterprise. For a full series? Nah. I kind of wish the last SNW has recreated the set for their Balance of Terror sections. I accept that DSC and SNW will use revised visuals and everything else will maintain consistency. Picard, LDS and Prodigy all show the other shows as they look. The LDS / SNW crossover will be interesting to see, though.

Even Discovery showed the old aesthetic when they did that Previously On segment with stuff from The Cage

Anyone got any idea on where the crew quarters could be on the Titan, the windows don't seem to match up with the outside of ship?
