Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

I'd love to see that as a Romulan ship!
It is birdlike, has graceful lines of swoop and evilicious forward-facing spikes.

The head section (and ship name) remind me a little bit of the Shrike-class scout from Star Trek: Armada.

The STO Okhala Tactical Pilot Warbird is similar as well ...

With the NX-01 at least some effort was made to make it era-appropriate. It's especially evident (at least to me) that little effort was made to translate the Shangri-La class into the 25th century if you look at the golden models. It would've been way better to A) use the Stargazer or B) steal a Shangri-La from the Starfleet Museum.

After combing through the promotional photos of the Titan A and re-watching the space Dock scene many times over, I am now on the fence about the redesigned Shangri La. If we ignore what Riker says about it being a "refit" of the Luna. Bill Krause is the original designer of the Shangri La, and he must have been hired by Picard to make a 25th Century version. The thing I most have a problem with is the up scaling, from 295m to 560m! The saucer has not been changed much from the original Shangri La model so as such the windows are at least 1.5X bigger. BUT... Those saucer windows similar to the Enterprise were tiny as per the 305m length so I have no problem being kept similar. There are several views aft of the bridge and there are several instances of "tiny" windows in keeping with its 560m size. I have no issue with the resuse of the Stargazer nacelles either, even if they don't really suit the retro look of the ship. Any excuse to get to warp 9.99 I guess. Yes they could have put more effort into the up-scaling but it's fine.

Yes, the Neo-Connie was co-designed by Bill Krause and Doug Drexler, I'm guessing Doug helped integrate the parts carried over from the Sagan class. Bill also built the gold models for the Stargazer and Titan conference rooms, and designed the Radiant Class USS Stargazer that appears in the Stargazer's conference room.

Terry saw the original Shangri-La online and fell in love with it, that's how it came to be the Titan.

Isn't that exactly the idea...
It's supposed to be a callback to the Constitution Class ships, according to the Producers of the show.
Like it or not, that is their intention.

It's along the same lines as the Akira being a callback to the NX-01, though of course in actuality, that wasn't the original intention at the time.

One would have to be pretty dense not to be able to tell the differences between SNW and this season of PICARD.
It's kind of an issue with this season of Picard. It's meant to be a TNG tribute but the look, the music, even whole scenes like the spacedock launch are taken straight from the TOS movies. The movie themes goes a lot better with big sweeping shots of the sets and ship than the rather static camerawork of Picard.

Today's Star Trek production personnel don't really care about the inherent issues with upscaling ships. Just like they didn't during the Berman era. They really are giving us a TNG tribute!

No, it's not density. It's annoyance at Trek ships being charged for reasons not agreed with.
