I think it became pretty evident in "Enterprise" that Starfleet designs are heavily Earth influenced.
The Hathaway's NCC No of 2593 is significantly lower than the Stargazers (2893) There's no reason to assume the whole class were built in one go and perhaps numbers were set aside for them. Although I'd agree that a 41 year construction period seems a long time for a design we rarely see. The Miranda or Excelsior class I can believe. (in the real world the Burke class destroyer has been commissioning for 31 years and it's likely they will still be commissioning new ones for at least 10 more years.)
To be honest NCC numbers have been a mess since the Constellation appeared in TOS and I can't see them being resolved any time soon. Perhaps they're not meant to make sense. If they are deliberately random or semi-random it makes it harder for potential adversaries to work out the size of your forces. Doesn't seem very "Starfleet" though.
What are these? People say this like it makes sense.Kaplan F17s, part of Star Corps
Thank you.La Sirena is a member of the Kaplan F17 class Speed Freighters.
Evil Starfleet.La Sirena is a member of the Kaplan F17 class Speed Freighters. Not sure what Star Corps is though.
The class name was said out loud in Season 1, when they enter orbit of Free Cloud.Thank you.
Here I was hoping for something cool.
Well, novels aren't canon so they don't need to follow that. They have the outriggers that in the prime timeline Rios added to La Sirena (PIC novel “Rogue Elements”).
I just missed it and haven't really followed up with that ship class. The class name was said out loud in Season 1, when they enter orbit of Free Cloud.
I guess it's possible the Stargazer was built earlier, mothballed (due to the Khitomer Accords?), and then finally reactivated and commissioned in 2326.
If you assume a registration number is allocated at the start of construction or even development it would make sense. I kind of like the idea that she was somewhat obsolete right out the gate, which backs up Picard's description of her in 'The Battle'.
Presumably, La Sirena prima has a civilian registry number (like any car got a number plate or any plane got a tail number).Wait does La Sirena have an NCC number in the regular timeline? And I guess a lot of it is making use of existing characters and sets but what sense does it make to have a freighter on the frontline of a war with Vulcan?
