Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

I liked that scene from a VFX standpoint, I could actually see what was going on. That scene wasn't a battle but a lot of the ship battles in NuTrek are either so full of spinning ships, flashing lights, and fast moving cameras or so dark that half the time I can't see or follow what's happening. And sure you might have only had one class of ship in the Federation fleet but they also had the orchids from the planet, which was an interesting and unique ship design that I'm sure took a bunch of time to create. I liked the VFX overall in that episode. Even the ship battles in that episode were well done, way better than Discovery.

Don't get me wrong, I would have personally liked another ship class or two in the Federation fleet, but it's a very minor quibble when the VFX overall was really good.

They do remind me of a natural evolution of classes like the Intrepid and Nova.
I agree. The whole class feels like it built up from pretty much every facet of starship design in Berman era, as well as a response to the various conflicts. Non-descript, rapid response, units would be my preferred design as well.

They're passing up a gold mine of continuity references if they don't mention that the future tech brought back by Voyager may have contributed to the new classes of starship being so powerful.
