Starscape's Art Challenge Thread

Okay, I wimped out with the physical cosplay for the Hallowe'en challenge. And I'm not sure how well I'm going to address the "creepy" condition, but I've gotten a start on my entry hopefully I get a finish, too. ;)

If anyone is going to cosplay it's surely the Lower Deckers. You can probably guess where I'm going with this...

This is great, Starscape! I love the expression on Boimler's face.
As for the creepiness, the flap of skin is creepy enough in my eyes, but I'm sure you'll come up with something extra

Neat idea to do something in the Lower Decks universe for this challenge. I agree that it's probably the one show where they would actually show Halloween festivities.

I agree with @Michael - I can totally see Boimler and Mariner dressing up for Hallowe'en. This is great!
But that spider... So many legs. Brrrrrrr.....

I feel this month's challenge should have been far easier to get a grasp of that it actually was... and I was just just about post my final entry (1) when I decided to overhaul it to, perhaps, better fit the brief (2).

In my attempt at depicting an "escape from darkness" the first seemed a little too ambiguous as to which was winning, the light or the darkness. Hopefully, the second image is more uplifting.

I've almost too many unrealised or abandoned ideas I could've have used for the "Design Evolution" challenge. But thanks to my little Eaglemoss model and additional photos I've found online, I've recently felt like returning to my attempt to rebuild DS9's Yeager kitbash into more of a coherent design.

There were some things I hadn't quite figured out on my first attempt (some early work here) like exactly how much of the shape and features of the Maquis secondary hull to retain. This time I want to stay closer to the model layout and plan/experiment a little more before I get deep into modelling.

So, my contest entry is starting to do that by looking at how to approach the front of the secondary hull. Traditionally, the location of the Main Deflector but can one added in without deviating to much from the existing shape? And have I thinking far too much about this?

I must say, I rather like the splayed-nacelles 'stance' of the Yeager (it's not to dissimilar to the Crossfield, come to think of it), so I'm happy to see you having a go at making sense of this funny-looking ship :) The secondary hull definitely needs more smoothing (just as you're doing) to make it blend in more with the Intrepid primary hull.

P.S. Being a sucker for the Ent-B, "Tuesday's Delivery" is my favourite deflector design! :D

My intial thoughts were to do away with the weapon arms ("claws") and go for the "More Pew-Pew" option, using the Saucer Deflector as the Main. But then later changed my mind and decided put the torpedo launchers in the arms (which should be more 24th Century style than the mega-phasers) and that's what started me thinking about how to add in a Main deflector.

On that subject I think I, finally, maybe onto something here...

While trying settle on an idea for Feb's challenge, I'm still honing the shape of the Yeager.

Adding a neck is, perhaps, one of the more significant departures from the original model. But I like the way it helps to tie the two hulls together.

Oh, yes, I think the neck works! And that joint/edge line set back from the deflector. The final image is a (much-needed) flattering angle for the Yeager :bolian:

^^ I haven't quite decided what function those fins have yet (Sensor platforms? Mounts for the impulse engines? Maybe take inspiration from the fins on this Voyager Concept?) and that will impact what I do with them. I have just spent a day or two trying to find a way to better integrate them into the hull, only to realise it looked a little too over-worked, so back to keeping it simple.

Thanks, @Cyfa.

That early Voyager sketch I see as a TNG Perimeter action ship that paces back and forth around borders and neutral zones…same duties as the defunct radar picket subs like Triton, that circumnavigated the world submerged a half century or so ago.
