Stargate SG1 25th Anniversary

I'm not sure what I want from a new Stargate series/movie. I don't really want to lose all the years of lore and history we've built up with the various shows but I also think by the end the Earth was starting to get a bit too advanced so it might be nice to get us back to being the underdogs with modern tech again.

...and quit it.

The Stargate universe for me is like Star Trek, and a reboot of the universe would be the equivalent of the Kelvin-verse. It might be enjoyable, but it won't the the Stargate I love and I'd rather not wait ten years for the powers to be to realize that what will be truly successful is more series set in that same universe. Just give us a new series set ten years later! Alternatively, a sequel to the original movie would be acceptable. Thank you.

I mean, yeah. You have to hit the reset button on Stargate. There's no choice. At the end of SGU we were already at a Star Trek level, and that was more than a decade ago. At this point a follow up show would just be Trek-lite.

I guess you could do a prequel, but nobody seemed that interested in the Catherine prequel they did. It went largely unnoticed. So what other option is there? An SG team that gets lost in another galaxy? Even that betrays the original concept. It was supposed to be "us" out there fighting space aliens. Modern day, present humans, dealing with scifi problems. That was Brad Wright's own words. I don't see how you do that without rebooting.

And on a side note: I'm not sure now is the right time for Stargate to come back. We're dealing with a huge assault rifle problem in this country right now that has divided our nation. Kids have become the number one target for anyone with a grudge and a gun. And let's face it, SG1 was pretty much a walking assault rifle commercial. The P90 was the fifth member of the team.

And we can talk about separating fiction from reality, but the thing is, some people don't. They just don't. That's why they get sucked into online conspiracy theories like white replacement theory. So I just don't know how I feel about another show that's going to ramp up gun sales.

I mean, regardless of what they do, all those seasons of SG-1, Atlantis and SGU aren't going anywhere and can still be enjoyed at our own convenience.
Yep. In fact I think I'd rather spend my time rewatching it all instead of making a commitment to something new.

I welcome more Stargate. It takes nothing away from the old stuff. If I don't like it, well, I bin it like SGU.

If I do like it, then I have another show to enjoy.

Life is so hard.

Star Wars on tv is thriving

Star Wars in film has been saturated so bad that it’s not exciting to anticipate a movie

Star Trek on film is dead right now

Star Trek on tv is a mixed bag.

Discovery has been terrible

Picard season 1 and 2 are the same. Season 3 is alright

strange new worlds is passable

The stargate movie, on its own, was extremely mediocre and would barely be remembered if it hadn't spawned SG-1 and the other shows. So any reboot, to me, misses the point of why Stargate became as big as it did, and so I have no time for any reboot type stuff. Either continue in the SG-1 Universe/Timeline/etc, or just leave it alone.

Lower Decks and Prodigy have been great. Discovery and SNW have been great.

I love Stargate, but by the end it was Star Trek/Star Wars etc with all the ships and hyperspeeds and whatnot. The OG is soldier contact teams exploring new worlds, without all the super dooper alien tech at their disposal. Only way to get that back, is a reboot.

Nailed it.

I also felt like there was too much humour in Season 8-10. After RDA became reoccurring then left, they just moved most of the humour they'd normally give O'Neill, to the other characters.

So if it does turn out to be a full reboot do we want whole new characters or at least some like Jack and Daniel recast?

A reboot would probably be best, but I'm kinda curious what a show set in the established universe but around the year 2070 would be like.
