    So, July 27th 1997 25 years ago Sg1 premiered on Showtime.

    I haven't heard of any anniversary plans or announcements. I was kind of hoping we'd get an announcement of a new series by this time.

    But hey, Sg1 is on Netflix right now, so I'll rewatch the 1st episode on the 27th!

    ^ Based on that, I'd say Seasons 4, 5, 6 and 7 will benefit the most. Still, 2k quality is a massive boost for the first three Seasons. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is all the computer-generated imagery that requires updating.

    My son and I have spent the past year watching Stargate. We've finished SG1 and Atlantis and are about a third of the way through the first season of Universe. Universe is much better than I remember and holds up well. My son immediately noticed the much more contemporary tone to the series than the other series. I think its problem was that it was actually too much ahead of its time when it was released.

    Problems:

    * Lack of humor.
    * Miserable characters.
    * Abundance of darkness (both literally and figuratively).

    I used to think so too, but rewatching it now--the tone is different but there is still humor and the characters are much more interesting than I remember.

    Ultimately, it piggybacked on the Stargate name; when expectations aren't met, fans are going to rail against the newcomer.

    If you go on to Infinity (and Origins and the direct to video movies) please tell me where you find the first one.

    I think I'll read some novels and RPG guides.

    We probably won't watch Infinity. Origins I hadn't known about until this moment so will probably check it out. The direct to video movies--I enjoyed the end to the Ori storyline, but Continuum was always a big disappointment for me.

    Was it just me or did this feel like it was on level with Star Trek The Next Generation? SG1 was an excellent and highly entertaining series. I know there were spin off series and animation etc but I always felt the show was destined for bigger and greater things. Yet here we are 25 years later and it just seems to have all fizzled out. No big movie spin offs, no soft reboot or continuation.

    I wish we had received ONE solid Stargate SG-1 game set anywhere from Season 1 to Season 5.

    SG-1 was better than TNG in my opinion. It told wonderfully evolving stories and even in it's languishing days at the end still held my interest. Unfortunately, what it lacked was larger cultural impact. It didn't grab the attention the same way as Star Trek. Name the reason and I'm sure it applies in some way: smaller network (Trek starting out with the Big 3 vs. cable), contemporary setting, less colorful characters, less iconic aliens, or what have you.

    SG-1 will always be my favorite SF show but it never went big. Which, is fine by me.

    There was that fun looking FPS that never happened.

    But hey, if the 2001 version of Duke Nukem Forever popped up, there's every chance we'll be running through an unfinished SG1 game one day.
