Stargate SG-1 First Time Watch Thread

Distorted Humor

Fleet Captain

Yes, I am watching Stargate SG-1 on Netflix for the first time.

Figured I would do a thread since the Stargate forum seems to be a little on the quiet side.

Children of the Gods (Part 1 & 2) -
Saw this episode a year ago or so. Forgot it was on showtime till suddenly it wasn't a family friendly show with boobs and so on being flashed. Tasty choice in a wife.

Anyways, it sets up the plot of the show, which is promising, they can do arc, and they can do one off episodes, exploring though the stargate and they have villains in the snake people who take over human minds. After getting adjusted in the recasting for the TV show from the movie (which i saw years ago and though was kinda cool) Anyways, a promising start.

B+

"The Enemy Within"

Ok, so when the snakes get in you, your screwed, so noted. However it was a fun episode as you don't know if the surgery actually worked or not. I was half expecting them to close the Iris on the poor guy. But the same effect happened. Wonder how the actor feels that his role was cut in two episodes on a show that lasted 10 years....

B

"Emancipation"

Hooo boy, this one sucked. the only thing of note is that Amanda Tapping does the best with a lukewarm role, and she quite attractive, though I like how when she in her military duds I think of her as quite capable, but when she in the ridiculous mongol woman outfit, she was quite attractive. Anyways, the suck age was high on this episode.

D- (Saved from a F by the good looks...)

The story goes that they killed off the character in the second episode because they thought they would get John Diehl to reprise the role of Kawalsky from the movie, but wouldn't be able to get him to commit to a television show for long.

For whatever reason, that fell through, and the producers have noted their regret that they offed the character so quickly. However, through various excuses, they do bring back Kawalsky (and Jay Acavone) a few more times in subsequent seasons.

Emancipation is totally SG-1's worst episode. In fact, it's the second-worst episode of Stargate overall. Only SGU's Cloverdale is worse.

Emancipation was a horrible episode. I'll give them points for trying something and recognizing that it didn't work, and they never went down that road again.

"Emancipation" is certainly a dog. I've seen it exactly once, and I dread watching it again with my girlfriend, who wants to see what Stargate is all about at some point.

Well to be fair, I seen worse TNG and Babylon 5 episodes then that episode. Emancipation > Shades of Grey > grey 17 is missing

"Grey 17 is Missing" is a bit silly, but it's not as bad as "Emancipation."

"Shades of Grey" is on a whole other level, though. Not only is it a clip show, it's an especially bad one.

Well, now hang on a minute, you gotta give Grey 17 is Missing credit for the excellent B-Story, despite the pure schlock of the A-Story. It was half awful, and half excellent. :alienblush:

And not just for the Neroon story in the episode itself, but, for the character development for him throughout the rest of the Series that was spawned by that one fight

Oopps, I confused two B5 episodes

Infection is the Babylon 5 with the Space Nazi monster
Grey 17 is the babylon 5 episode with the crazy cult and monster.

Infection is the BAAAAD episode. Grey 17 has a few moments, and I put it on par with say,DS9 Meridian.

"Shades of Grey", the season 3 episode of SG-1 is pretty good however. :p

Also, first time watching Stargate SG-1 and you hate Emancipation? Welcome to the fandom.

I've watched it once and that was too many times. I'd still rate it worse than Cloverdale too.

Madness. Cloverdale is actually a fantastic character study. One of Stargate's most underrated episodes! :techman:

Ah, yea, I was tempted to throw Infection under the bus to give Grey 17 a reprieve ;)

Still some good S1 episodes to come. "Solitudes" and "The Torment of Tantalus" to come. To name but two won't say anymore Spoilers.

It was the first episode I ever saw. Since I had already dismissed the show as just some derivative movie knockoff (unfairly, since I hadn't actually watched it), I didn't think any worse of that particular episode. And then it was years before I saw it again. So it doesn't have the stigma that it has for some people.

Now, "Red Sky", on the other hand...

"Red Sky" was watchable mediocrity and showed us more of the Asgard, but the less said about the self-indulgent, nonsensical "Wormhole X-Treme!" the better.

Oh, I like "Wormhole X-Treme." It's "200" that is self-indulgent (even if it has an amusing Farscape parody, it has only the thinnest semblance of a narrative).

Well, that was kind of the point. They were the 100th and 200th episodes respectively.
