They never really show someone who served say for 6-10 year stent then got out and would do something else

They usually Show Them as lifers.

It's funny, back when I was in high school I would have said yes. Indeed, when everyone was all "what you going to do with your life" it actually depressed me that "join Starfleet" wasn't possible. But now? Eh. Truth is if you have never served in the military and have no intention to do so, you wouldn't be inclined to join Starfleet either.

I haven't and wouldn't do today's military service, but would absolutely join Starfleet. Because they're very different

Without getting into The Argument, there's not really much of a difference in terms of recruitment. Like today's militaries, Starfleet requires its personnel to be completely in shape. Which is where I turn my back.

Ok, if you mean that people who wouldn't be accepted there also wouldn't make it there, then it makes sense. But intentions have nothing to do with it.

Not sure. I'd probably try to find a way to stay away from landing parties during my 'redshirt' phase before the fun (and the assurance I won't die in action or at least, the assurance that I won't stay dead if killed) begins.

Entry requirements are so stringent even Wesley struggled to get in, but looking at the caliber of many officers who make it through, they are awful.
