Hey do you think Starfleet has a cadet program for kids to have fun and help them prepare for service in the Starfleet? The armed services of the United States and Britain already have cadet programs for youth. I have a good friend who is in cadets. From what I can tell you she is having a blast! How about a TV series or animated web series like GI Joe Resolute about a group of High School Starfleet cadets? They already made a TV show about a Glee club. If you were in charge of the entire High School Starfleet cadet program how would you have the program operate? Would it be a class or after school activity?

Youths in Trekverse have normal childhoods: going to school, making friends, playing sports and games, listening to music, making their parents lives miserable. Not all of them will go into Starfleet Academy, and those that do will only be the best and brightest (once they have reached an age appropriate for their species, for humans this seems to be 17/18).

At the Academy they have basic studies, where they all learn elementary engineering, piloting, defence, etc. After then they specialise in their desired field.

I didn't realize the United States military was so close to collapse that they have to draft Trekkies.

Actually, it seems that you only need to be bright if you are under that age, like Wes in "Coming of Age". The other cadets we have seen haven't appeared particularly wunderkindly...
