Starfleet Academy Starship Thread

At least in my country the Voyager is also very well recognized. That ship was seen in a lot of commercials, on magazines, etc.

I would also argue that people would rightfully guess ships like the Excelsior or the Ent-E are Star Trek ships, even if they know nothing else about them, just by visual similarity. Maybe also kitbashes of the Enterprises (Nebula & Miranda class, USS Kelvin, ...).

Maybe also the D7/K'Tinga - though that's already more getting into genre audiences, not general audiences anymore.

But my main point is: Take the USS Shenzhou:

Everyone who had ever seen at least a few episodes of Star Trek will be able to see this is a Star Trek ship.

Now no casual audiences would be able tell which century this ship is from, or from which series. Not even most fans, it's a big mesh-up, with lots of generic elements.

But for any casual fan - it looks like a Star Trek ship on first sight.

So by matching up the deck heights on the saucer rims between the Athena and my Wanderer II (which is the same length as the Crossfield Refit), this is what I got for scale/size.

Still a rather long/flat ship, but definitely not crazy big tbh.

Hm, I dunno. Doesn’t the Crossfield only have 18 decks? Based on the rows of windows on the rim of the outer saucer ring we saw in the preview scene the Athena should have way more decks. Assuming one row of windows = one deck, there should be like more than 50 decks in total. Something like this.

This would kinda track with my idea that the ship design is based on the Friendship class background ship from Discovery, because that ship too is apparently very large, as postulated in this video. (Here as the USS Thant.) Although I guess with 50+ decks it would be even larger than that.

Although, now that I look at that screenshot again … could also only be about 30 decks. I don’t know … 😅
I probably should have specified that the Wanderer II is the same LENGTH as the Crossfield refit but the Wanderer II has 2 saucer rim decks and is 22 decks compared to the Crossfield Refit's 18 decks... lol

When I did the scaling, I put the Wanderer II's rim at 2/3 the size of the Athena's.
