I was only like 2 years old when DS9 first came out so the feedback to it was kind of beyond my ken. I've no doubt it brought many racists out of the woodwork. They just have a different buzz word today.

But if you watched the series, you grew to admire Sisko. The more Avery and the writers pushed to make Sisko a black man, the African art collection for example, the stronger the character became.

I enjoyed it also, though it had some dubios decisions in the story.

People need to read more literature to realize religious leaders have been antagonistic for years. And, well, that doesn't offend me as a religious person. Three Musketeers being one of my favorite books.

A good story is a good story.

I wish social media was around when DS9 was out. The usual suspects would have a field day with Far Beyond the Stars.

'OMG DS9 is doing gimmick episodes! When can we get some actual Trek episodes?' 'This episode is WOKE! Why do they have to make everything political and in your face' , etc

Didn't hate it, didn't love it. It was okay. Weakest of the modern live-action Trek series, but watchable and not deserving of the level of hate it got.

• LOVE Holly Hunter's work
• Paul Giamatti was somewhat wasted
• Didn't particularly like any of the main characters
• Come, Let's Away was excellent
• The ending was terrible, though modern Trek so often fails to wrap up stories well

They did then. The DS9 Companion mentions people calling to complain, and it was cut from some broadcasts. There was even a court case in New Zealand over it.

Bryan Fuller has spoken about receiving hate mail over the rumour that Seven of Nine would be gay in Voyager.

Trek fandom has always had plenty of bigots; they just have more of a platform now.

Steve Oster recollected that a man called the show and complained, "You're ruining my kids by making them watch two women kiss like that." It was a production assistant who took the call.

After hearing the man's complaint, the PA asked if the man would've been okay with his kids seeing one woman shoot the other. When the man said he would be okay with that, the PA said, "You should reconsider who's messing up your kids."

Genuinely, kissing on a show if any kind annoys me. It's deeply uncomfortable for me to watch because I get reminded that these are actors.

Yes, I'm aware it's a normal human thing. In real life I'm cool. On TV, breaks the immersion.

So I was never keen on TPTB's vision of the future and the design language (all these weird shaped silly starship classes) and I was not thrilled that this was going to be the setting for SFA. Which is why I never bothered to watch the show until now. 2 and a half episodes in I think I'm going to shelf this again. Not my cup of tea. I didn't care much for the James Bond-like villain in PIC3 and I don't care for SFA's iteration. Acting is over the top (with the drill master as a prime example) and it feels way more than a parody than Lower Decks ever did.
