News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

Harry Kim says hello.

The man didn't get a promotion until 29 years later on Lower Decks (and yes, Garrett Wang is coming back as LIEUTENANT Harry Kim).

'i survived the delta quadrant and all I got was this lousy pip'

Kim should have at least made lieutenant commander

Nothing says that’s Prime Kim.

In fact he’s in the wrong uniform. He’d be most likely be wearing first contact grey like Tom did in Season 2.

After 29 years, I doubt Mike McMahan would be so cruel as to pull the rug out from under the guy (I doubt Garrett would've come back if he was just going to end up an ensign again by the end of the episode).

Tom's uniform is different from the Lower Deckers' uniforms. He might be assigned to a different class of ship. What type of uniform someone wears may well depend upon what ship they're assigned to.

That's how they tricked him into doing the episode. McMahan was like. "Garrett, baby we aren't going to screw you. We love you man. You can trust us to do right by you and LT Kim."

Then on the day of recording the episode the doors swing open to the recording booth and in comes walking Kate Mulgrew with a evil smile and then whispers to Wang when she walks by him "Never going to happen."

They started preparing her spin-off before season 2 had even aired, after basically four appearances in s1, so fans could've hated 80% of her episodes and Section 31 might have still happened.

Travis and Hoshi were introduced as part of the core ensemble and had their credits in the main titles, whereas “those guys” were not.

That's fair.

Actually really an issue with Discovery is that early on, they kind of have way too many characters while ALSO having an extremely narrow focus on characters and only a short number of episodes to explore any of them.

Especially in Season 1... Burnham, Lorca, Saru, Tilly, Stamets, Culber, Detmer, Owu, Ryse, the other dude, Ariam, Landry, Ash.. Not to mention some of them don't even show up until two episodes in.

The Mirror Universe arc in DSC just didn't work period.

Yeah. It was incredibly disappointing.

One of the issues is that it was too early in the show. Mirror Universe only kind of works ever because we get the jarring turn of seeing the heroes we know and love being twisted and evil. We didn't have time to get know most anyone by the time we get the evil versions... and then the ONE person who actually do know well... Burnham Christ, we didn't actually get to see the evil version of...

I do give a tip of the hat to Mirror Stamets though. I kind of like how we just... Stamets. Like the dude just cares about his damn spore drive and it doesn't matter if he's in the evil universe. He's just like, a bit more unethical about it.

I do kind of wish we got to see real Mirror Tilly though.

They're certainly trying to make her work, I'll give them that.

Mirror Georgiou is a terrible character. I find it absolutely bonkers that Star Trek... ESPECIALLY Discovery, which is the entry in a franchise that has always been left leaning is the most on-the-nose and unashamedly left... wants us to be sympathetic to Space Hitler. The actual fuck, Discovery?!

But... she's Michelle Yeoh. If you have Michelle Yeoh, you use Michelle Yeoh.

None of that is relevant to the fact that Lt Harry Kim is wearing an outdated uniform.

The era of nuTrek has really played fast and loose with uniforms. It seems like every ship has it's own uniform type now. Some apparently use the old style.
The only other time we saw the DS9/Voyager uniform style in the modern era was Denny the elderly transporter chief in Lower Decks S3 premiere. And there it was an intentional joke to represent that he's old and behind the times.

Which reminds me that the flashback with Admiral Buenamigo showing Rutherford's initial bionic implant should've had Buenamigo in the DS9 jumpsuit or the FC uniform.

The DS9 jumpsuit was only used on DS9 until Generations/Voyager.

You see this in DS9, the only Starfleet personnel wearing it are on DS9, whenever there's a visiting ship they wear the TNG uniform.

When Sisko first arrives on DS9 in Emissary he's wearing the TNG uniform. Later when he's reassigned to earth during the Layton episodes he switches back into the TNG uniform.

DS9 was the first series to do the unique uniform for the assignment thing that all the series seem to be doing now.

Yet Voyager and also the Equinox uses the DS9-type jumpsuit contemporaneously with DS9, meaning that uniform began to be distributed beyond space station use by the early 2370s.

I mentioned Voyager in my post.

DS9 was still using the TNG uniforms for non-DS9 staff in 2372, which was a year after Generations. So Buenamigo wearing it isn't wrong, since we're not given an exact date for that flashback. We don't know how old Rutherford is either.

Although Season 1 seems to imply he just received his implant.
