News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

I thought a bit before replying and while I agree that those would be the majority reactions, I don't believe they will be the only reactions. I agree that it has to get worse before it gets better, bu that is the nature of human change. Behaviors don't just change without a substantial reevaluation of how one meets one needs. From a group standpoint there has to be willingness to at least acknowledge the other side as people before we can even start to talking solving the problems.

But, I'm hopelessly optimistic. I've been told the world is ending since I was 9. I've found politics frightening, maddening and eventually just ridiculous because each election cycle is more of the same. Instead, I focus on how can I impact the world around me, and group with people whom I at least share an agreement on what the problem is, even if I don't agree on everything with them. And I think that if many here knew some of my political opinions you would be surprised. That is the nature of the middle ground. That is the nature of compromise. That is why I believe so strongly that humans can change.
I just want you to know that I'm glad to know you.

On the topic at hand, I happen to love both Nancy Drew and The Magicians, so the co-showrunner is a plus. Also, all Star Trek is good Star Trek to me because it means the franchise is alive and well. And I remember when it wasn't.

Fans have spoken....On official instagram Star Trek profile there is a news of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Fans don't want 32rd century, most of them. I agree with them! They will destroy Star Trek by doing that. No one is interested in shitty Disco spin-off nor 32rd century.

"Destroy"?

Worst case scenario is that a Starflleet Academy series set in the 3190s will be very mediocre and/or boring. It's set 790 years after the current season of PIC so short of a Cadet wiping out history going back 1,000 years or more in a time travel accident and nobody correcting the timeline I seriously doubt it's going to "destroy" Star Trek.

Fans have spoken.
All 7 of them, eh?
They will destroy Star Trek by doing that.
Destroy, eh? So no more Star Trek ever? :vulcan:

As fellow BBSer KRAD famously once said, "never mistake a bunch of fans bitching on the internet for any kind of trend".
Indeed. I'll take what is actually being produced and renewed over loud opinionated fans any day.

This is a business. And fans do not speak with one voice.

Too reasonable. How dare you!?

I don't care about this Starfleet Academy series, I just hope any other live action series that gets made isn't about Section 31 or any characters that appeared in Picard or any other legacy character.

Nope. Sorry. The Member Berries are too strong.

The Hollywood Reporter: "Paramount+ Orders Diverse, Teen-Focused ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Series"

More diversity?
They already had a show without a single straight white man.

If you look up the co-showrunner this shouldn't come as a surprise.
Noga Landau is also the co-creator of the "Tom Swift" show for The CW.
The show is an "adaptation" of the "Tom Swift" books by Edward Stratemeyer with a race-swapped Tom Swift and a very diverse all-black main cast.
Very diverse.

"Swagger is a science"

IMDB: 3.2/10
Rotten Tomatoes: Critics: 60%, 5 Reviews, Users 26%, 50 ratings

The show was canceled after one season.

Maybe this point diversity means adding back a white man LMFAO.

At the end of the day, fans are often a brand's most loyal paying customers. If a critical mass of your customer base doesn't like a new product, it might take a while, but eventually the message gets through. Or, you get canceled and go on indefinite hiatus. But at the same time, flawed Star Trek has been too big to fail for Paramount, so you just have reconfiguration after reconfiguration. Maybe they get their market research right with SFA, budget accordingly, and give the right notes.

Oh no, fans are bitching!

If you're presenting this social media whining as evidence of something important, it's a complete fail.
