News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+
remember Lorca, Commodore Oh and Vadic quite well.
Yuck.

Also Nero from ST 09, which is one of my personal favorite Trek villains of all time.

Double yuck.

Mudd.

Kor.

Trelane.

Chang.

Borg Queen (groan inducing but memorable, nonetheless).

Viddians.

Hirogens.

Paxton.

Kruge.

I’d count Mudd and Kor as antagonists, especially since the latter ended his story as a hero.

All the rest stand true as villains for sure. I’d include Seska and Cullah (as lame as he was). Maybe the most villainous with no shades of grey has to be Fajo, who even acknowledges that what he does is vulgar by most standard, and he doesn’t care.

But that just makes my point that in the grand scheme of things true villains were more rare than abundant. For every General Chang you had a dozen Roga Danars who the main crew comes to learn and understand their predicaments and can sometimes help them out or at worst can’t do anything but hope for the best.

Yuck. Fuck that noise. He wants to torture Spock and Kirk and slaughter Organians. So...hero! Same with Mudd.

I mean...I never said otherwise, but I think there are great villains in Trek and pretending otherwise is nonsensical.

Just like Georgiou!

Though Mudd doesn’t necessarily become a hero, but more of a buffoonish antagonist in TOS that likes to dress like he’s from a daytime children’s program.

“Great” is a pretty bold word IMO. I’d only count a select few as being truly “great”, and by the time we reach the Kurtzman era… I don’t think we really had any “great” villains.

The closest is probably the Gorn in SNW who are for the most part faceless rather than specific characters, and I’m actually liking the Diviner from PRODIGY.

To be fair, unless they cast a bunch of 32-year olds as teenagers yet again (something that TV does way too much) I don't expect many heavy hitters among the main cast.

I don’t know if it’s fair to judge actors based on their ages. Sure, they might be unknowns, but even Tom Hanks was an unknown once upon a time.

Well, different moral standard there.

Also, include Garak and Dukat too. Irritating characters, those.

And still horrible.

Agree to disagree at this point.

I'm not saying they'll be acting lightweights. I'm saying they'll not have a major established rep.

I just realized that this is going to be a reunion of sorts between Giamatti and Kurtzman. Ten years since their last AMAZING collaboration…

And I’m not being facetious, Giamatti is one of my favorite bits from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, which is a guilty pleasure of a movie to me.

“I’MMA KILLARRR!!!”

If Giamatti brings that energy to this Trek villain… I’m game.

Paul Giamatti in Star Trek just sold me on this series. I love Giamatti and think The Holdovers should have won Best Picture last year. Not only that but Sideways is an amazing movie.

I hope there is a Merlot joke somewhere in this series.

That movie is 100% a guilty pleasure of mine, only weighed down by too many villains. But, the ending is top notch and I'll never apologize for liking it for that bit alone. And Giamatti.

It is surprising they aren’t casting Giamatti as a professor of sorts, as he just killed it in THE HOLDOVERS last year. I’d definitely have liked to seen Giamatti play a Starfleet professor.

I'm bummed they are making him a villian. Maybe he's a villian professor? I too would have liked just straight up professor.

IMHO Trek only did a compelling villain once, and he's right there in my icon. It helps that he had multiple seasons of buildup. Though of course the resolution was a bit underwhelming, even then.

The best villain of the Kurtzman era - by far - was the Diviner on Prodigy. You know, the show they canceled.

You forgot about Weyoun.
