News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

I have a feeling that what CBS announced a few months ago and what will actually be happening a year from now are going to be two different things entirely.
We, as in Star Trek fans, are again hoping that your prediction doesn't come to pass whatsoever.
Everything does seem to be a little up in the air at the moment.

The Paramount boss, Chris McCarthy, just cancelled the Gattaca series for Showtime that they announced in March. Apparently he was a big fan of the movie and was bullish on doing the series, but things changed, I guess.

I'm hopeful and really looking forward to this Starfleet Academy show, because I assume it will be a continuation or spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery (my favorite Star Trek series).

That said, I'm of the mind too that I don't see it lasting more than a couple of years, maybe three years tops. Because it feels like something like a Starfleet Academy show would be a companion show to a lead series; a complimentary show.

Of course, the plan could be: introduce these new characters in an academy setting for a couple of seasons, and whichever ones catch on spin off into a new lead series set in the 32nd century.

The original plan may have been to have it play along side Star Trek: Discovery, but I guess that's changed.

In all, I won't be shocked if this is cancelled in the coming weeks and something else takes it place. And if that does happen, hopefully it's something set in the 32nd century. Just give me a show, any show, set in that time period and I'm good.

Learn to multiquote, especially when you're quoting two different posters just to say essentially the exact same thing.

I would hope that too much money has already been spent on it for it to be canceled outright and at the *very* least we would get a movie ala Section 31 or a Disney plus style six episode mini.

I think you don't know who you're replying to. DSC is my favorite Star Trek series. Just check out the forum and you'll see.

But when I'm trying to see how I think things will go, I put my preferences aside. I can't predict based on what I'd rather see happening. I have to predict based on the direction I think things are going in.

Well I'm simply hoping we'll still have new Star Trek content/episodes streaming on Paramount+ by that time. With regard to Star Trek Academy, SNW and etc. Only a bit worried and alarmed by the news about Prodigy and what not.

First, you should realize that you don’t speak for Star Trek fans. You speak only for yourself.

Second, despite what I wrote in my post, I am not some jackass who wishes ill on the franchise. I am simply being a realist.

Imagine they film season one of SFA, but then bury it as a tax write off and it's never ever seen.

What a wonderful world of streaming content we live in.

It would be amusing if SFA is a hit and they need to come up with excuses why cadets played by popular actors stick around for more than four years. It's the old "90210" problem, where they just had all the stars go to community college or something even though it made no sense for their characters.

I imagine in such a scenario they would just have all of them assigned to the same ship after graduating. Sure, it's not realistic, but it is television.
