Thing is, I'm sick of people trying to don some mantle of authority for their dismissal of the movie (while claiming that they're not) by playing the "long-time fans on this side of the room with me" game.

Liking or disliking this movie is entirely individual - it's neither generational nor rooted in how long or how devotedly you've followed Trek.

Well said, Dennis. I am one of the long term fans (since TOS was first shown in the UK, many moons ago) and I loved the new movie. I am in full agreement that something fresh was needed.

One of the big complaints about recent Trek ('specially VOY) is the constant use of the reset button. Well, the time-line got changed and there wasn't a reset button this time. Thank goodness!!

And I am part of a group that hates this movie, I am a follower of Cannon and the idea's laid down, and I have no respect for anyone that would dare call this movie more than a parody.
If the respect you give people is based upon how much their viewpoint agrees with yours, then I don't think your respect is worth a damn. I can gladly live without, thank you very much.

I respect real trekkies, I do not respect those that would call this bastarization of trek anything more than a sick joke. IF you like this movie dont bother going to a convention you have no place amongst real trekkies.

Actually, the days of the real conventions are long over - those I do miss.:(

You, on the other hand, seem to have missed the entire point of TOS - and the irony is rather overwhelming. :p

Please, someone tell me this guy isn't for real.

Wait, no, it's more entertaining this way.

No i still go to the smaller ones, the one every year in dallas for example, Im well aware the days of the big conventions are dead, that doesnt escape me, and I didnt miss the concept of TOS, the crew was out there exploring to better themselves and to protect humanity from the klingons, romulands, and the doomsday machines. This movie might as well be star wars. If you like this movie your a sell out plain and simple

go and ask them, the only thing i want done is this movie destoryed. me and alot of other like minded people are planning to remove the movies from store shelves when dvd launch comes, if you find a shortage around Fort Worth area you may thank me. I don't care what trouble i get into for this, paramount should be ashamed of themselves. Roddenberry is turning in his grave, and we all know if he was alive this movie would have gotten the same treatment V and VI did, he would have declared them not Star Trek.

My dear sir, thee have wounded me by declaring me a fake trekkie. I am now forever and ever disenchanted and I would never dare to presume I would be welcome at a convention for my dishonor is much, much too great to bear in the company of real trekkies.

:D

Sorry - I don't recall IDIC as including attitudes like that which you currently express. Disagreeing with me makes you scum? We must have watched totally different shows if that is the lesson you learned from TOS.

Decaf, dude.

You can't find "a lot of other like minded people."

What goes on in the "Fort Worth area" is, mercifully, of no concern to me...as long as it doesn't involve those awful things happening to your girlfriend and child that you talked about so glibly.

Oh, even better - disliking the movie gives you the right to interfere with access for those who liked it?! Wow - a Nero mini-me!:rommie:

Seems to me some people are confusing a few vocal posters with everybody. I'm an old timer from the NBC era, and from what I've seen of postings since Thursday night, old timers love this movie, including myself.

I am a long time fan. And I agree that most of us old farts seem to like this movie. I think, and I dont know this to be sure, but most of the negative stuff is coming from TNG fans. Because this movie is the total opposite of what that show tried to do....this movie has balls, and has alpha-male all over it. Where as TNG fans came to believe Star Trek was about a sexless captain spewing communist dogma as he traveled the universe...

TREK...KICK ASS KIRK TREK is back....i say..YAY!!!

where not just in fort worth, there from a webring of mine, alot of old trekkies from the glory days. We are a group that was active on the Offical Star Trek Chatroom before it was closed down. I have about 200 people in America that belive like I do, and we are willing to take the steps to ensure this movie fails. I am arranging pickets this friday at the local theater near me to protest the movie. And Ill do the thing in my Star Fleet uniform, just to get the point across.

Just curious, what do you think of the lighter fare in RealTrek™? Are such episodes discarded in your personal canon because they don't fit your ideal of what the perfect Star Trek episode should be, or do you accept them as elements within a broader tapestry? There's more to Trek than we saw in the film, and it'd be unfortunate if subsequent productions didn't explore those missing elements, but it was an entertaining flick that RealTrek™ could learn more than a few lessons from. It's a 2hr film, not a summation of the franchise. It doesn't have to be all Treks to all people.

that has nothing to do with it, I grew up watching TOS, as my father refused to watch TNG, and to this day its not allowed in his house, but the fact is this movie doesnt even compare to TOS. It is so far away from that idea its stupid.

WE? Funny, I always assumed that Roddenberry had a message to those who felt they could be as violent as they damn well please.:vulcan:

I guess, in your view, his real message was 'off with their heads!':guffaw:
