Nothing beats the original in my mind. The fun, the adventure, the best space battle in the series. What more do you need?

Indeed, my rankings exactly follow production order:
2) The Empire Strikes Back
3) Return of the Jedi
4) The Phantom Menace
5) Attack of the Clones
6) Revenge of the Sith

Star Wars before it was A New Hope or Episode IV. Before Lucas "improved" it with new special effects. The movie I saw twenty times over my summer vaction in 1977 when I was 15 years old and it was the coolest science fiction film ever.

so when the film was in theatres in '77, the title screen crawler did not include the words "Episode IV" or "A New Hope" ??

cuz my vhs from the 80s had that, and i remember that always confused me as a child (what happened to episodes 1-3???? i wondered)

That wasn't added until the re-release before Empire came out.

So you know, anyone who complains about his tinkering with the Special Editions...he's always been doing it.

Empire for me. The only way it could have been better was if they'd found a way to get the metal bikini scenes in there without spoiling the story.

Two votes for the Ewoks? [mockney] You're 'avin a laaaarf, aincha? [/mockney]

1.) Empire
2.) New Hope
3.) Phantom
4.) Sith
5.) Jedi
6.) Clones

Yes. I put Phantom third. It's a much better film than people give it credit for. You just have to learn to tune-out Jar Jar.

I think Phantom is a great film, and Jar Jar doesn't even bother me that much. Other than the fart and the stepping in shit...which I think is the only really bad stuff...I understand the character of Jar Jar and find him mildly entertaining.

Phantom is "last" on my ranking of the films, but only in comparison. They're all great films.

Empire
Sith
Jedi
A New Hope
Clones
Phantom

ANH. ESB is probably the better, more rounded film, but ANH is just so much fun. It's invariably the one I watch if I fancy watching Star Wars.

Star Wars was the original, the groundbreaker, the innovator, the history maker. It was brilliant filmmaking, while Empire, good as it was, was a second act.

ROTJ was OK, not great, and the rest didn't make enough of an impression for me to remember much except they weren't very good.

It's a tough call between New Hope and Empire. I usually say Empire, but I said New Hope this time for variety and due to the "in your heart" comment.
