I fundamentally disagree.
So you think JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson have the same directing style? So you could watch Looper, and Mission Impossible III wouldn't be able to tell that they were directed by different people?I fundamentally disagree.
Yup. I mean, by the arguments Kershner's entry is completely disparate and doesn't line up with Star Wars.Differences in style to not and have never equaled discontinuity or a lack of cohesion.
Except the differences go beyond just their directing style. They have entirely different approaches to storytelling (And everything that encompasses.) The most obvious example is Abrams's mystery boxing compared to Johnson's "straight shooting."
I do think fans bring it on themselves.A throwaway line doesn't constitute a mystery to be solved, and with a rewatch of the full Saga freshly completed, I can bluntly say that the only "mystery boxes" that exist in regards to the Sequel Trilogy exist solely in fans' minds.
Well, I hopefully found the right podcast and will be giving it a shot.Following on from my previous post, Mallory and Jason's full discussion about The Rise of Skywalker is a stellar example of how to be critical without being negative and toxic, and I have to give them a lot of credit for expressing their thoughts in a civil manner without being dismissive or condescending.
I never said they did, like I said before, my issues isn't even so much with the fact that Johnson's style is different from Abrams, it's the yo-yo effect of going from Abrams to Johnson and then back to Abrams. I would have been perfectly happy if they had stuck with the original plan, and had different directors for each movie, because then each one would have had a different style and tone, rather than the yo-yoing we got.Differences in style to not and have never equaled discontinuity or a lack of cohesion.
