If they had remained as archetypes then there would be no investment in the characters. Their story would have been over after the first film. Instead, Luke and Han and them go through significant character development in their struggles, making them more than just the archetypes of Star Wars.
they go through significant character detriments just ebcause of the 30 year gap. People love these characters because they are simple and because they are archetypes.. not every character needs to be realistic ultra complex.. certainly not to make them "interesting." I mean Luke acting as he did in the first act of TLJ already labelled him as an asshole.. and no matter what they did with him at the end some people are always going to think of him that way.. including children looking forward to seeing their daddy's hero.

my opinion.. but those characters were mythological archetypes for the modern age.. should have been treated with kid gloved.. very carefully, and anything added to them should be done carefully.

Then they missed out. I went opening weekend and had a blast. Sucks some people are so fragile that they spite themselves when something doesn't go their way.
I agree they missed out.

But it is their money to spend and if they felt the quality of starwars had dimished then why should they spend money on a expensive ticket if they think they wont enjoy the film based on past negative experiences?. Disney need to remember that they are not entitled to the audiences money.

Expensive? Tickets are like ten bucks.

Treating them carefully means nothing changes. It is the same expectation of safe and comfort food style storytelling.

No, they should not have been treated with kid gloves. They should have been treated as characters in a story, where good and bad things happen. Those who want safe and familiar are welcome to return to the OT.

No. But their target audiences aren't poor families, it never has been.

Those family still are potential ticket buyers. In fact poor people are probably in greater number post recession than middle class/ rich.
And they still go to the cinema so that's still a big market, they are just more discerning about what they watch.
If they can only watch 2 or 3 movies a year, you got to convince them why your movie should be in that 2 or 3.

And obviously Solo didnt draw the same about of brought tickets.

Which is odd, because the heroes steal an unrelated Corellian Corvette from Corellia in Resistance Reborn. I know we've already mentioned the RotS Tantive IV/Sundered Heart/Tantive III thing, but is the first time in the new Star Wars canon where we've had two mutually incompatible backstories for the same thing at release? I've seen movies where it happened before (the most recent that comes to mind was Independence Day II, where the bridge-novel says Jeff Goldblum's wife died in a car accident, but the art-of book and novelization said she had cancer), but I though the joy of the Story Group was that this wouldn't happen anymore.

There's several things about TRoS that make me suspect that the JJ got more of a free hand from the Story Group than others. I mean the books and comics just spent 4 years talking about how Poe was New Republic Navy before Leia recruited him...but nope, I guess he's a spice runner now...because reasons!

Whether because "it's JJ", the fact that they already sacked one director putting pre-production on a tighter timeline or some combination of the above is as of yet a mystery.

I would much rather there be actual risk and challenges to these characters. That was one of my biggest issues with TRoS. Everything felt way to safe.

Something that can be easily reconciled if one wants to. No harder than Obi-Wan not knowing there was another Skywalker out there.

The Poe thing I get, because the movies call the shots, Story Group or no, but this is two tie-ins that, while not strictly incompatible, are oddly redundant and contradictory.

Indeed, the Visual Dictionary does mention both Poe's time as an outlaw and in the NR Navy in his character timeline (though it makes Keri Russel seem odd for accusing him of leaving the gang for the Resistance before there even was a Resistance).

Seeing a movie now-a-days is not cheap, particularly for groups. A group of 4 is $40 (or more) just to walk in the door. It's nearly $5 for a bottle of water, soda is probably about the same, so tack on an additional $20 for drinks. Throw in popcorn or candy for everyone and you're closing in on $80. Sure it's cheap compared to tickets for Lady Gaga or the Lakers, but it's still takes a bite out of one's wallet.

For reasons Disney had owned up to.

But, let us keeping beating on our favorite franchise's mistakes...so loving, and caring and compassionate.
Well that way they dont make the same mistake again.
And they haven't.

As I said, Disney are doing pretty good if out of 5 films you have only one that lots (I know not all) dislike. Even George Lucas himself couldn't do that.

So they regurgitated information for clicks?

Hard pass, especially with all their Trek nonsense.

They filtered what was accurate on Reddit by confirming it with their own sources. What they confirmed ended up being true.

Most of the leaks on reddit were false over the past several months. Then there was a test screening, and legitimate leaks came to light amidst the inaccurate ones. Placing any bias aside, Midnight's Edge got it right.

So you have absolutely nothing to say, thought so. I won’t be wasting my time on you anymore.

As stated, I'm quite pleased with the outcome of this film and what is to follow.
