I have a lot of personal respect for Bryan Young because he not only lives in the same state as me, he had a profound impact on changing my opinion of The Force Awakens from lukewarm to positive.

He's also just a genuine fan who has largely been able to remain above the vitriolic quagmire that emerged following the release of The Last Jedi.

If you took the time to read the link I posted, perhaps you’d see that the reactions were mixed there. They probably lean positive but several are with a twinge of negativity. Talking about how some big moments fall flat. That there are moments of disappointment. That it was heartbreaking. That it’s convoluted. That they left the theater conflicted. Yes, reviews there are positive too. But we’re probably splitting hairs at this point so I ask that we not get into an argument about this and leave it be.
Most of the reactions collected by IGN are positive, but a quite few people did seem to have issues with it, so it's not universally loved.

27 hours... and 20 minutes for me.

I've read the twitter reactions and feel encouraged by what I see. Now, I'd like to let my anticipation settle and enter the theater tomorrow with an open mind.

*takes deep breath*

I see the film on Friday afternoon with a really good friend and her family, but since I'm already spoiled, the wait isn't as hard for me because it's more fun anticipation than anything else.

I'm not positive when I'll see it. I'm hoping to see it Friday, but that depends on what happens at a doctor's appointment I have on Thursday.

Saturday Morning for me. I've been mostly avoiding spoilers but reckon one of my mates won't shut up on the way there about whatever spoilers (True or not) that's he's read about.

Someone with a screener has leaked a shit ton of pics onto Reddit so stay away!!!! I think they KNOW who because JJ kind of addressed it on Kimmel last night. Kimmel asked how many people had seen it............JJ said maybe a dozen people. Kimmel then asked "so if anything leaked, you'd KNOW who did it". JJ looked right at camera and said "yeah I think so". I did not even know about the leaks when I saw the interview, now it makes sense.

I honestly don't believe that Lucasfilm cares as much about secrecy as people believe because, if they had truly wanted to, they could've swiftly and easily stopped the leaks.

Yes, they bought back John Boyega's TRoS script that he accidentally left behind and that ended up being sold on Ebay, but I don't think that was done to preserve secrecy so much as it was to preserve and control the copies of the script that exist for intellectual property concerns.

Whoever decided to sell it on ebay was an idiot. I would have kept it and leaked a copy online instead. You sell it later, after the movie is out.

I've read the spoilers, seen the images, and read the reviews. I predict it will be less divisive than TLJ, but not universally loved. I cannot predict at this point if I will love it or not. I think I will enjoy it (hopefully more than TFA) and want to see it many times. I can't wait until it comes out on disc/streaming so I can properly watch the whole trilogy properly. I think I need to do that a few times and let it settle before I can truly rate any of them in the context of the saga.

Like you, I'm not convinced this is the end of the Skywalker saga. This one goes over $1.5 billion and we'll be getting the sequel sequel trilogy in 2023 or 2024.
^^^
Yeah, after the last two feature film outings (Solo - which I actually liked and TLJ which for me was just :barf:, because of the way the Luke Skywalker character was treated in the film - but the plot point of "Yes, a Star Destroyer will just slowly follow a Cargo ship, and fire slowly at it shield so characters can fly to 'Space Vegas' and back to pull off a REALLY STUPID plot complication...); I think the possibility of this doing 1.5+ Billion in Worldwide BO is wishful thinking. It may barely reach the 1 Billion mark (which is a TON of money, no mistake, and will make it a VERY successful film for Disney) - but just having 'STAR WARS' in the title is no longer a guarantee of absolute top of the chart Worldwide BO results.

Its almost certain to get over $2 billion. It's tracking for way more tickets sold than Endgame.

BTW seeing lots of "I will hate this movie no matter what because I am a real fan" type of posts all over the internet. That is so... weird.

Haven’t seen that. Got a source? Everything I’m reading suggests it won’t get close.

Welcome to a post-facts fandom.

I guess my info was just about early presales.
Atom reports that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sold 2.5 times more tickets in its first day of pre-sales than Star Wars: The Last Jedi back in October 2017. Last night, Atom reported that Rise of Skywalker set a first hour record for the retailer, selling 45% more tickets than Avengers: Endgame in its first hour.
