Star Wars The Old Republic

Finally managed to fight my way to the Emperor! Those were some hard fights. I was very pleasantly surprised to see Lord Scourge enter the narrative as I had just re-read the Revan novel. (He appeared earlier but I forgot the name) I don't like the look or the voice of the Emperor. He looks like a silly mummy with his brains showing. Very disappointing design.

Now that I have Lord Scourge as a companion I'm torn. I've been using Kira the entire game because she's a Jedi. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to switching to Scourge? I've been giving Kira all these nice unique to her upgrades all this time...

Not really. He is a better fit to your character if you play dark side, I think. otherwise he is a tank, where Kira is DPS.
If you play a light side tank, keep Kira.
It would take forever to kill things if you used Scourge and he would disagree with you all the time about light side choices (better to give him gifts for his affection ;) )
Personally, I switched to a more DPS oriented gear set up with my Jedi Guardian back then and started to use a healer for companion which seemed to work better for me. Don'T remember which companion the Jedi Knight gets for a healer, though.

I'm a light side Jedi Guardian so I guess that makes me the tank and I'll keep Kira.

Speaking of, if I'm in the middle of a battle I can't use Introspection to heal myself and I can *only* use a med pack to heal in battle, right?

Doc is on Balmorra.

Other than medpacs, you have your heroic moment which grants a temporary HoT. There's also Enure, which, while not technically a heal, does give you a short health buff. It's meant to be used as a last chance type of thing.

Vigilance gets an extra buff to Enure. And really, you should be running nothing but 4/36/6 Vig for questing--or anything where you're not the tank. It out-class the other two trees in every why possible.

I have no idea what that means :)

Yet another frustratingly impossible boss fight. The Executor at the end of Belsavis (?).

Here's what REALLY sucks about it. Everytime I respawn back at the START OF THE LEVEL. And I have to fight my way through all those hard guys just to die at the boss again! WTF!

It's the one where you have a bunch of guys helping you but the Executor has like 10 guys with him. I tried just hanging back and waiting for my allies to kill as many as possible before entering the fight and I still died when the Executor was very low on health, but after respawning back at the start of the level again I was so pissed off I didn't want to try again.

Well it took me five or so infuriating tries of having to do the entire damn level over again, but I finally beat the Belsavis boss. I basically hung back until half the allies were dead and had killed most of the lackies, then I went in and attacked the boss and ignored the lackies (normally I attack the weakest first) and I barely won!

I'm a light side Jedi Guardian so I guess that makes me the tank and I'll keep Kira.

Just because you are a Guardian does not make you automatically the Tank, it depends entirely which skill tree you use as only the left side skill tree is the "tanky" skills the middle and right trees are both DPS.

Mate, he's already said he has specced as tank.

Yeah sorry I missed him stating he'd gone up the left side of the tree and only read that he guessed it made him the tank, I read this at work so I can miss some stuff occasionally. It's just that I have played this game so long I can see people automatically assume all guardians and vanguards (and their mirrors) are all tanks and thought it was the same case here. but then again we all know what happens when you assume anything.

Woo! I hit Level 50! I didn't beat the game yet my next story mission is going to the Republic flagship Valiant to rescue a general or something.

I just opened a TON of new space combat missions. I love playing those. But they're all impossible. It seems like to buy the necessary upgrades I need to use Planetary Recommendations which cost @400. But my collecting ability caps at 100--- how do I raise this????

You don't. You just spend what you have and go get more. If you really want to bother, you can go back and do early level heroic missions. Most reward 3 planetary coms each, and you can blow through even the Heroic 4s through Balmorra pretty easily. Doing the whole circuit (Cscant->Taris->NS->Tat->Aldrn->BM) takes about an hour and a half, and you should net about 65 more PComs.

Another options is, if you haven't grouped yet, get the Intro to Group finder quest, and use the GF to start a KDY run. It takes about 15-20 minutes (depending on group) and will net you 35 coms.

That said. Don't.

Since you when ahead and got the 12xp. Drop everything and go Strait to Makeb. With the quests there, (since they also benefit from 12xp) you'll get to 55 in about an hour. You should have a quest thingy on your ship. Saresh will tell you about Makeb and send you there.

When you disembark, look for a tall terminal clicky. They're sort of like transport terminals, only taller. They grant the GSI buff. It bolsters you to 55 with ~160ish gear. And gives you a perma heal. Basically, you'll be able to tear through anything on Makeb. Be warned that it doesn't persist through log-out or leaving the planet. I think it does persist through death though. In any case, there's a buff term at ever bind point on the planet.

In any case, it makes Makeb super easy. And you'll be able to finish the quest really quickly. The buff isn't applied to comps, so just use Kira and let her hack away at whatever. And you'll hit 55 well before you complete the quest chain. You'll also get some fairly decent greens as quest rewards.

And level 53 greens are almost as good as the 50 purple mods. And blue 53 mods are better, and you can get some off the GTN for not too much.

Anyway, the point is do your best to patch together some gear as quickly and as efficiently as possible. to get ~25k health and maybe 17k for Doc.

Then you can move on to Oricon. The quest chain there gives you a full set of 156 gear. Note the quests there are a bit tough (one in particular), and to get the complete set of gear you have to finish a Heroic 2+. The heroic is soloable if you play it safe and take it slow. (Follow Dulfy's guide.)

*One thing is, they were talking about adding the GSI buff to Oricon fairly recently. I really haven't paid attention since, anyone I go there with has better gear than the buff provides--and of course I've been focusing on leveling the last several weeks. So just look around to see if it's there.

Once you have that, finish up Doc's stuff with whatever you can off GTN. And you should be good to go to do Blackhole/Section X pretty easily to get basic coms.

However, instead of buying the current Basic gear, you might just want to farm the coms till you reach the cap. 186s (The current BiS gear.) will be available for Basic coms as soon as 3.0 goes live. So buying anything with them now is kind of a waste.

And I wouldn't waste too much time farming them anyway. Instead start a new class and take advantage of 12xp.

I understood... some... of that...

But what I'm saying is I have 100 Planet Comm and it doesn't let me earn more than that it says I can't hold anymore. But any of the ship upgrades cost @400 PC. So I can never buy anything because I can only hold 100 at a time.

Ship upgrades use Fleet coms.

Also, just buy 'em off the GTN. Or really, the best way is wait until you have a cybertech and make them yourself.

They're not worth whatever you'd pay for them.

*ETA: The old rail shooter has more or less been phased out of the game in favor of GSF. They left it in there for people who like to play them, but they haven't added any new content to it in almost two years. And a lot of the old easily obtained upgrades have been taken out of the game.

It's for that, that the Cybertech ones are so overpriced--there just isn't any demand for them, so people don't waste mats making them.

Oh... And before you ask, GSF sucks.

Give GSF a go instead of just accepting Clegg's claim that "GSF sucks". You might enjoy it and find it fun. It also rewards you with fleet comms for doing the daily and weekly GSF missions.
