So she didn't really do anything that exceptional then. She pulled the lightsaber to her, a la Luke at the beginning of ESB.
Although she had also already had Kylo use telekinesis against her more than once (and he was also trying to grab the lightsaber at that very moment), so she’s still distinctly behind Luke - who really did just pull the ability from nowhere.
She arguably used a bit of force sensitivity when she managed to slam doors on top of the aliens trying to eat Finn (‘What happened?’ ‘Lucky?’j But the movie just sort of leaves that for you to muddle on.
Kylo does seems more powerful in the force than with his sabre but he was also injured after being shot in the gut. J.J panned the camera directly to the wound (showing him bleeding on the floor) and had Kylo visibly stumble because of it...Directors are not responsible for your lack of attention.
Have you seen the OT? never mind the PT that attempted to put some sort of science behind it, the Force has always been MAGIC, they move objects with their hands FFS.
Luke had virtually no training time with Yoda before he went to face Vader
Why didn't these fully trained Jedi in their prime, supposedly the strongest in the Order, just throw up shields when the clones attacked them?
as right as rian.
Even injured he should have no problem
Snoke might not be gone.Don't get insulting when someone disagrees, please. Even injured he should have no problem with someone without training. And I maintain my opinion that Kylo's not portrayed as overly powerful, no matter what they want you to believe. He's (especially given the opinion that he's 10 years older than Rey) more of an adolescent, prone to fits of pubescent anger etc. I still don't see where his marvelous power is supposed to be, given what Luke and Rey (and Leia) are able to do. The only thing worth mentioning are his mind manipulating powers, but even those Rey could withstand. And Snoke? Apparently he served his purpose in the story, so he had to go - that he didn't sense Kylo's intentions speaks louder to his own overconfidence than to Kylo's abilities.
Because people never make the same mistakes?Because the principle message of TLJ, that it only matters what you're fighting for... well, we already had that in the OT. I really liked Luke's defensive style in the projection, but his whole character-arc dealing with Ben is one simple reiteration of ESB and RotJ. Back then he had already learned that he could only fight the dark with light. Talk about a lesson unlearned here.
I'm starting to feel like the only one who wants to treat these characters as people, with failures and flaws
Why is it okay for Anakin to be able to do these things, but not Rey?
Rey's innate Force abilities. Anakin Skywalker was able to do things through the Force before his formal Jedi training without complaints from the audience (his podracing abilities). Why is it okay for Anakin to be able to do these things, but not Rey?
To play, um, devil's devil's advocate...Rey being good at piloting the Falcon fits right in with Anakin's and Luke's piloting skills, so no worries there. To play devil's advocate here, I think the basis for questioning Rey's Force use was that Rey was doing things like mind trick and beating Kylo in saber pull in her first movie, without having begun any training per se ( though she appears to have copied Kylo ). Luke's first saber pull was in his second film, took much concentration, and initially failed.
That actually seems to be Rey's main talent, and it also explains why SHE SPECIFICALLY is the one who experienced the awakening. Because it's a skill that Kylo Ren also possesses, The Force is trying to establish balance by empowering his exact opposite. If Kylo had had different abilities -- say, fast healing or force lightning -- the Force would have awakened in someone else more closely his match.I also agree that she appears to be copying Kylo and read some techniques from his mind.
