My favorite character was the young lady padawan-- her facial expressions are quite well done, and she has a very charming blend of courage, compassion, sarcasm, and wit. They could have really made this one of the better star wars characters if it was live action and they got a very talented young actresss to play the role. But even so, this character seemed to come to life-- even as a toon.
Jabba's son was not as annoying as some predicted in this thread, nor were the rumors about what he does true. He was even sort of cute-- for a slug/worm.
The interaction between Annakin, the padawan, and Ob1 was very well done IMO. Especially the interaction between Anakin and the padawan.
Ventress and Dooku made effective villians.
The animation was very good for the droids, ships, machines, and weapons. The animation of the people was very weak for the most part -- they moved stiffly as if they were made of wood, and didn't look real (the hair and beards looked like they were painted glue). However, they did do a nice job of showing the character's facial expressions, IMO... especially in the Padawan/master interactions.
On to some criticisms:
I HATED the opening crawl. Instead of the words scrolling on the screen and telling what the episode is about, a voice narrates it and sounds like a news anchor that is so worn down and bored he is ready to retire.
The complex plot involving saving the worm brat to keep pappa Hutt happy (so he would take the Jedi side) was a little silly, and unnecessary. They should have come up with a better way to tell this story.
The movie was made for kids, it was cute in many ways, but not too serious. Don't expect a well thought out plot, just go to see it and look at it with your kid side turned on.
Overall, despite looking like a 3D version of Bugs bunny, the characters were quite likable. It wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd call it above average -- C+/B-.
