Star Wars: The Clone Wars

They could have gone the way of making it look realistic somewhat like Beowulf but they wanted to do it in an animation style. I do not have many issues with it. Though, I thought the regular cartoon version of Anakin looked better than the 3d version. All the other characters look good though.

here's my 2 cents which was worth a dollar before the economy tanked. This Clone Wars movie should have been Episode 2, but live action. The real Episode 2 and Episode 1 should have been scrunched together and a little shaved from each to make Episode 1 then episode 3 can stay the same and there you go 3 prequils we can be proud of. oh yeah change Gungans to Wookies and Jar Jar to Chewie and throw in Han somewhere in Episode 3 bam everybody is happy and George Lucas is not hated

fanboi.

And, you, who are also posting at a Trek board, are...? ;) If you don't have anything constructive to post, refrain. This is the second time I've seen this from you; third time will get you a warning.

I'm debating about attending the press screening tonight.

Ambivalent am I, yes.

I would be too. It's a movie that leads into a Sat. morning cartoon. Nothing personally against Sat morning cartoons, but as I am of drinking age, I am not their audience. I am much more interested in the Live Action series.

Well, I went in expecting the absolute worst, so it was obviously better than I thought it was going to be.

Can't do a full review until Friday, but it needs to lose 30 minutes of brainless battles (despite its title). Some fairly decent characterization of Anakin missing from the live-action stuff.

And the person above who mentioned the sidekick and farting baby overstated it a wee bit.

Kids who have never seen STAR WARS will probably like it.

I never quite got used to the "marionette-looking" style of animation, though.

Lots of minuses, but a few small surprising plusses.

thak you

I have been dying to see this (I am still dying to see it) but I saw a commercial the other day that depicted it as a comedy, almost, and that kind of left a WTF taste in my mouth.

Still, I will be there this weekend. The fact that it is animated means nothing to me: It is Star Wars for crying out loud!

My new favorite reviewer comment: "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars was fun. I miss that time."

As the IGN guys have said, making this a "film event" was the worst PR move ever. If this just premiered as a TV event for kids, the expectations would have been drastically different.
Now it's just "this thing sucks".

That coming from a website that started out as filmforce.net, an off-shoot of theforce.net...IGN is elitist garbage.

Are you telling me it's not true?
If there wasn't a movie, there wouldn't be a rottentomatoes page full of quotes about how shit Star Wars is now.
Hell, apparently the series was a mild hit at the TCAs - and that's because of the context. Star Wars and TV, no expectations. Star Wars and Film? Completely different.

My favorite character was the young lady padawan-- her facial expressions are quite well done, and she has a very charming blend of courage, compassion, sarcasm, and wit. They could have really made this one of the better star wars characters if it was live action and they got a very talented young actresss to play the role. But even so, this character seemed to come to life-- even as a toon.

Jabba's son was not as annoying as some predicted in this thread, nor were the rumors about what he does true. He was even sort of cute-- for a slug/worm.

The interaction between Annakin, the padawan, and Ob1 was very well done IMO. Especially the interaction between Anakin and the padawan.

Ventress and Dooku made effective villians.

The animation was very good for the droids, ships, machines, and weapons. The animation of the people was very weak for the most part -- they moved stiffly as if they were made of wood, and didn't look real (the hair and beards looked like they were painted glue). However, they did do a nice job of showing the character's facial expressions, IMO... especially in the Padawan/master interactions.

On to some criticisms:

I HATED the opening crawl. Instead of the words scrolling on the screen and telling what the episode is about, a voice narrates it and sounds like a news anchor that is so worn down and bored he is ready to retire.

The complex plot involving saving the worm brat to keep pappa Hutt happy (so he would take the Jedi side) was a little silly, and unnecessary. They should have come up with a better way to tell this story.

The movie was made for kids, it was cute in many ways, but not too serious. Don't expect a well thought out plot, just go to see it and look at it with your kid side turned on.

Overall, despite looking like a 3D version of Bugs bunny, the characters were quite likable. It wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but I'd call it above average -- C+/B-.
