Star Wars:The Clone Wars S3......so far

Did anyone notice in the lounge scene of episode 9, is it me or was Ziro's girlfriend singing a Stars Wars version of the song that the character Willy sang in the beginning of the movie Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom?

Yeah, I noticed that immediately and I've had "Anything Goes" stuck in my head all morning.

I guess it's been too long since I've seen Doom but that sounds like a nice touch.
Yeah, the official site says:

The dance number in the episode was inspired by the opening scene of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), where Willie Scott and a troupe of chorus girls entertain gangster Lao Che and his henchmen.
Good stuff.

Where I always thought the Seperatist movement lost any credibility was tying itself to the trade guilds. You can't bemoan corruption and then join forces with that very same corruption and expect to retain credibility.
It seems to be working for the Tea Party! :p

But heroes on that side? Yeah, not so much. ;)

The Separatists are a big tent organization, they are essentially everyone that hates the Republic from corporations like the Trade Federation to terrorist groups like Death Watch to principled groups that see the Republic as tyrannical.

The Seperatists are a big tent of corruption. And you can't claim the moral high ground that way.

The idea behind the Seperatist movement is good. A bunch of star systems get so disgusted with the corruption and ineffectiveness of the aging Republic and decide to break away.

My dear Hound, you've mistaken me for someone who gives a damn. I'm only here to heckle and grin bemusedly at the fact that there are still those who put up with the fiasco of GL's PT-era SW.

No offense. ;)

The prequel trilogy was badly executed overall, but it had its elements of interest, and the two animated series about the Clone Wars have both managed to surpass the film trilogy in a lot of ways.

I didn't care for the finale but I gotta be like the only person around who likes TPM. I think AOTC is interesting because it's the closest to really embodying the serials and pulp of the 40's and 50's what with space roadsters, space diners, jumbo airliner spaceships, Harryhausenesque monsters and so on.

I definitely agree with you about the series. Which really helps to strengthen my opionion of that Star Wars is generally better when somebody other than Lucas is telling the stories.
As for this season of the show, I've actually liked most of the episodes so far. Although, I do agree they haven't been as quite as good as the first couple seasons. So far my favorites have been Assassin and Hunt for Ziro.

Is it just me or do they seem to be jumping around in the timeline even more this season?

Oh yeah, they're jumping all over the place. It's bizarre. Last week's episode took place right before the first-season finale but after the second-season premiere, and this week's episode came right after the first-season finale.

^And we've had two sets of two episodes which are both part of the same arc, but have one earlier episode between them: Clone Cadets and ARC Troopers and Rookies, (huh, I just noticed that each of the titles is based off of the stage the clones are at) and Evil Plans and Hunt for Ziro and Hostage Crisis.

Yeah, the time-jumping is really starting to annoy me. I don't mind seeing a "prequel" episode once in a while but I wish they would give it a rest now. Of course, if they ever wanted to jump way back and do a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan episode, I would love that.

I think in two weeks we're getting another prequel episode.

^ I actually made an attempt at putting the episodes into some sort of order. Though, admittedly, it's just an attempt. I sincerely doubt that it's perfectly accurate. It goes to show, though, that there's plenty of room for the show to keep jumping around, chronologically speaking.

3.07 – Assassin (The series begins … on Christophsis with “Cat and Mouse,” The Hidden Enemy,” and the Feature Film. Many Season One and Season Two episodes follow, with Season Two’s Boba Fett episodes introducing Aurra Sing … The Jedi mistakenly believe that Aurra is dead, until she surfaces in this episode, which brings back Ziro — chronologically — for the first time since his imprisonment. The story continues in the next Season Three episode, “Evil Plans”, and Aurra will somehow be freed from captivity in time for Cad Bane’s attack on the Senate in Season One’s “Hostage Crisis.” The drama surrounding Ziro and his freedom then picks up in “Hunt for Ziro,” the ninth episode of this season.)
:wtf:

:wtf:

:rommie:

This is far more fun than I could ever have watching the show! Thank you, Mr. Walters! :p

Though, to be honest, I would be strongly tempted to watch a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan ep... just imagine... no good clones... few to no battle droids... no Anakin from a loving mother and a relatively happy childhood... Though it'd make a mockery of the series' title, I say bring it on!

Cool, that actually seemed pretty accurate to me.

I admit I've only seen season one so far (plan on picking up S2 very soon now) But thats been my big gripe about the series so far. Theres nobody supporting the Seperatists side whos honorable, or in it for good reasons. They're all about greed and evil and screwing over any planets foolish enough to support them. A little bit of a grey area would be nice.

^ It does sound as though the plots, chronology and themes are getting pretty scattershot. But it's understandable; how many stories with genetically identical clones and technologically identical droids can you really do, anyhow?

Seems to me as they ought to kill off one of their main (non-Ep. III, of course, not that I care) characters now rather than later... and I ain't talking no Hutt. :p

It's true. Taken as a whole, Season 3 thus far just isn't nearly as strong as similar stretches of episodes in the first two seasons. But given how much I enjoyed the first two seasons, and the hints of what to expect for seasons 4 & 5, it'll take quite a bit for me to sour on the show.

As for the kinds of stories that the show can do ... Gaith is right, there are only so many permutations of "faceless adversaries blasting away at one another." Season 3 has tried to address that by focusing on other aspects of the Star Wars universe, essentially pushing the actual Clone Wars into the background. It's a good decision, unfortunately the stories themselves haven't been as interesting as similar attempts in previous seasons -- "Senate Spy," "Senate Murders" and the original Mandalore arc, for example.

I will say this, though, "Hunt For Ziro" was an uproariously entertaining episode and the previews for this week's "Heroes On Both Sides" (about Padmé's Separatist friend) looks like it could be another solid non-war story.

The galaxy should just abandon the practice of incarcerating Aurra Sing.

It's obvious no prison can hold this woman for very long.
