Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

Well it also would be something like 25 to 30 years between the CW and the first EU appearance of Dathomir. In that time the Nightwitches of the CW were more or less wiped out and eventually the Empire occupied and later blockaded the planet. Even later placing it under artificial darkness. Most of the characters we encountered in the novel seem to be roughly Luke and Leia's age, so they were born during or after the CW. The shakeup post-defeat of the Nightsisters could easily shift that balance to what we see later on in he EU.

Also it could be on the opposite side of the planet. The Nightsisters and Nightbrothers being more or less wiped out by the Sith Lords (via the Seperatists first, and the Empire for any post-Clone Wars clean up operations).

There's an interesting three part interview with Fioni on starwars.com. What grabbed my attention was addressing the mystery of if Vader is known throughout the Star Wars galaxy during Star Wars Rebels. The look that Kallus gives him when he exits the shuttle... what is that about?

"StarWars.com: Does the Ghost crew know that Darth Vader exists? Have they heard of him?

Dave Filoni: That’s another thing you battle all the time. There’s a popular thought among fans that people all know who this guy is. Why would they? I don’t think people on Coruscant really care or know that Palpatine is a Sith Lord. A lot of them wouldn’t really know what that means. Many of them would say, “Well, the trains are running on time.” Everyone’s doing well. That’s in his favor.

Vader is a known person to some, but to very few, I think. He’s known of in whispers. The Imperials know about him, but a lot of them haven’t met him. He’s not military. He’s more the fanatical wing of the Empire. One reason I believe he’s not well known is the fact that if you encounter him, you usually don’t survive."

Terrific interviews with Filoni. He's a really smart guy. I wish more of those philosophical ideas he talked about showed up in the series. (I like the insight that all villains are motivated by fear.)

Well if they stick to the EU origins, the main reason for such a change would be the age of the character, I think. Do you want someone to match Ezra, or Kanan? Do you want someone very young, or slightly older? I would think slightly older even if the idea is to have a match for Ezra, give his thoughts on Sabine. Also there is still the missing sister of that stormtrooper cadet that was supposedly taken by the Inquisitor. That is probably were this character is coming from to keep their setup from the First Season.

They could make the person in question a good 5 years older than Ezra and it'd still work well enough either way, if need be. If by "match" you mean a romantic match, honestly I'd rather they not go down that route at all. I'd rather this character stand on her own and not serve as an object for a male character to either covet or want to "help".

You're right though in that the cadet's sister is probably connected somehow, at least tangentially. That is to say a foreshadowing of what happens to force sensitive children once they are detected by the Empire. It'd probably be too much of a coincidence for the new character to be that kid's older sister.

A question I was asked today was "if I thought the Ghost crew would somehow encounter Han Solo and the Millenium Falcon?" I'm not sure on that one. One, if Lando has already lost the Falcon to Solo, than Solo is likely heading for the Corperate Sector for smuggling and to avoid Imperial Entanglements. Also the question would be, who would voice him? I don't know how Harrison Ford is on voice acting. Also I don't know if he'd even want to try to pull that one off. Or would they get a voice actor that has voiced Solo in the past (Games or one of the parodies).

More than likely it'll be Keith Ferguson who's voiced Han before on Robot Chicken & The Lego Movie.

I can see the internet nerd-rage now...

"Harrison Ford was so desperate to get out of doing 'Star Wars: Rebels' that he crashed his own plane!!1!!!1!!:scream::klingon::scream::klingon:"

They could MAYBE make Han Solo work if they play up his "hired gun" angle. He doesn't personally give a crap about the Rebellion or it's ideology, but he was hired to do a job and he'll do that job. Using him in that role WOULD fit in with his ANH characterization. The trick is to make sure that he doesn't appear in the same place/time as Leia (whom I fully expect to pop up at some point, especially since Bail Organa's role seems to be expanding now).

It'd also be a problem to have Han interacting with Kanan and Ezra, since he seemed to think of the Jedi and the Force as nothing but old legends when he met Luke and Obi-Wan. I'm thinking a Han-Sabine teamup, apart from the rest of the crew, could be fun.

^Bounty hunting? Sounds more like a Boba Fett team-up. Han is a smuggler. And we've already seen the Ghost crew interact with smugglers and outlaws, so it wouldn't require any exceptional setup.

Having Ezra and Kanan not do any Jedi stuff while Solo is there. Simple enough. Especially if he is on the Falcon and they are on the Ghost.

But contrived and handwavey. It'd still be both a coincidence and a continuity cheat to have him interact with them at all. I'd prefer it if they never had any direct contact.
