Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

^Plus the Jedi temple guardians had yellow staff blades. Still, I think it's fair to say that blue, green and red are by far the more common colours. Possibly because that's the most common types found Ilum and most other sources of crystals that have rarer tints used in the ancient past have either been lost, forgotten or exhausted.
Not sure if the whole red crystal = artificially grown thing is an EU invention or if it actually came from Lucas. Either way it begs the question where the Sith get their crystals from. Moraband perhaps? Some ancient stockpile? Or some other world like Ilum, but known only to the Sith?

As for Ahsoka's new sabers, I'd wager she got them (or the crystals at least) from the same old temple where she found that Jedi armour. And I'm still fond of the idea that she found Chopper there too. ;)

Sam Witwer also voiced the Emperor in The Force Unleashed:

^Sounds good. It's a pretty good McDiarmid impression tonally, but it also has some of Witwer's particular knack for interesting speech cadences.

Does anyone know about the airing schedule on the regular Disney Channel? I do not get Disney XD. But I know it rarely pops up on the main channel in my DVR guide. Is there some kind of set scheduled delay? Do they show all episodes eventually?

It's certainly a good approximation of McDiarmid's voice, though perhaps because it's so close to the mark the different cadence sticks out even more.

He doesn't quite have that oily, serpentine, almost cat-like slyness and tendency to generally relish every syllable. Which is probably why the ended up hiring Curry for the last few episodes since that kind of thing is his stock and trade.

Not to come down on Witwer, he's always been a solid actor and clearly his acting ability has improved drastically in recent years. Still, just going on what he did on TFU, he seems to tend to speak more from the jowls than from the chest. He also has a tendency to bark lines that McDiarmid would snap. (examples: "Kill them immediately!", "Soon the rebellion will be crushed and young Skywalker will be one of us...")

So, since Ahsoka's face now looks much more like Ashley Eckstein's, does that mean that they are prepping the audience for Eckstein to play Ahsoka on the silver screen? ;) If they did choose to do that, I think it would probably be really cool!

Some of that could also be chalked up to the voice direction. His delivery might end up being somewhat different in Rebels, for all we know.

I was just thinking about this myself.

If the 2016 is indeed as the rumors suggest and Jones is to play an older Sabine, then I wouldn't be surprised if Ahsoka plays a prominent role in the film. I can actually seem them becoming fast friends. They're kindred spirits.

Before, I was giving fifty-fifty odds as to whether we'd ever see Ahsoka on the big screen. But since Disney is not actively acknowledging her existence, it almost seems like a foregone conclusion. She's probably the most popular Star Wars character never to appear in film. (Yes, even more than Mara.)

Felicity Jones as Sabine? That makes no sense. Sabine has a distinctly Asian appearance. Indeed, one of the coolest things about Rebels is that not one of its human leads is white. Ezra is brown-skinned and kind of Mideastern-looking, Kanan is kind of reddish-brown-skinned like maybe a Native American, and Sabine is Asian. It would suck enormously if these characters ended up being played by white actors in a feature film. It'd be The Last Airbender all over again.

Ahsoka's first appearance was on the big screen in The Clone Wars movie.

I apologize if this has been posted before but this video is actually very informative.
Silver lightsabers for Ahsoka. Suck on that mister only 3 colors Lucas.
Lucas may have been right to limit the number of colors. Too many onscreen at once and everyone starts looking like they're fighting rainbows.
We never had a massive fight with a lot of participants minus the Palps vs Kit Fisto, Tiin, Agen Kolar and Mace duel. That one was badly done anyway.

Well we already had purple and wasn't Ahsoka's shorter "Tanto" lightsaber kinda yellowish?
I think that was green.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is playing the following character in Season 2:
Sarah Michelle Gellar will be voicing a new character based on Mara Jade named Aileen Zahn in honor of Timothy Zahn, Mara’s creator. She will be an Inquisitor but pretending to be a Rebel.

If it's a Mara Jade esque character that would allow Mara herself to exist at a later date, then I'm all for it! I do hope Mara herself survives in the new continuity.

Wow, I was only joking. Never really thought they'd (kinda) actually go in that direction. I wonder why they aren't using the name. Could it be a royalties thing? I was always under the impression that none of the authors owned any piece of IP they created themselves.

On the other hand it really could be that they're saving Mara for later. Perhaps as Aileen's daughter/younger sister/replacement/secret apprentice?

At first I was hoping that was the case, but now I hope its as a replacement for Mara. That way bad writers can't ruin Mara, but they can pretend to be doing something for old EU fans (which is the only reason I can think of that they'd even connect the character to Mara at all, since she's nothing like her based on her description). I'd rather have a random woman based on Mara be used then completely screw up the character by making her an "inquisitor". This way, I can completely ignore the new character and not have to get angry that they're ruining an EU character I liked better than any of the actual movie characters.

Don't get me wrong, I love Luke, Han, Leia, etc, but my favorite Star Wars characters are EU, and I'd prefer all the old EU characters to be either reintroduced in books by experienced SW writers or not used at all, especially completely out of their original context, which is what Mara in Rebels would be. On the other hand, I'll never be able to take this new character seriously, she's just a rip off of a great EU character. But that doesn't bother me as much as ruining the actual character would.

^Filoni and his crew have a good track record of handling and adapting existing characters into canon and just in terms of sheer volume, have far more collective experience with Star Wars than any one author.

Just some examples off the top of my head: they made Ventress not only an interesting villain but a legitimately sympathetic character and eventual anti-hero. They reconciled the hyper-competent cybernetic nightmare version of Grievous from the old CW mini-sodes with the bumbling Skeletor reject from RotS.
They took glorified extras like Kai Adi Mundi, Mace Windu & Boba Fett and greatly expanded their characters. They also took actual extras like Shaak Ti, Kit Fisto, Luminara Unduli, Barriss Offee, Plo Koon, Aurra Sing etc. etc. and made them fully fleshed out characters.

Then they did the impossible and not only made Darth Maul's come-back credible but made it one of the highlights of the entire show's run. To say nothing of doing a *much* better job at characterizing Padme than all the prequels combined and perhaps most significantly: they made Jar-Jar Binks tolerable! That achievement alone should allow them free reign to do whatever the hell they like. ;)
