Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

That "someone with red hair" would be rather young. Erza's age? Or was she even younger than that? I think she's even younger. So she's be...13 years old in season two? If that is the hand I think you are talking about

Watch this video to see Ashley Eckstein wearing an "Ahsoka Lives!" t-shirt. Also, a discussion about Ahsoka's new look.

I love it that the cubicle wall behind Filoni is tiled with covers from Marvel's '70s-'80s Star Wars comic. I still have most of those issues! They're the only SW tie-ins I still own!

Mara served Palpatine and did his dirty work, not Vader's. However, the analogy could still work if you replace Mara Jade with Shira Brie. That said, I'd rather they not re-visit old EU only characters. Their stories have been told and are done.

I the first comic that I ever bought with my own money was Star Wars 39, the first issue of The Empire Srikes Back. I collected every issue from there on out, and sought out all of the back issues. I was looking through that box just the other day.:techman:

What got me interested in the Marvel comic was the in-depth Starlog article about it in their special issue commemorating SW's 10th anniversary. The piece summarized pretty much the entire series, and I was curious about the elaborate saga it developed. Over the years, I saw a lot of criticism of the comic for how it had little to do with the specific subject matter of the movies; but that was what I liked about it, the way it expanded on the universe beyond what was in the films and created its own fairly consistent world.

The Ghost is definately going to be going places next season. First step into a larger world.

Yeah I'm really hoping that's the case. I have no problem with the show continuing to center all of the action around the crew of the Ghost, but it would be nice to expand the focus beyond just Lothal and the surrounding planets, and to see them interacting with lots of new characters and going on bigger missions with other rebel groups.

^ If nothing else I think an eventual trip to Dantooine is a foregone conclusion at this point.

Well it's not like they can't use an EU character and change whatever details they like. That said, there's certainly potential in having a character that serves as a dark reflection of Ezra. Something he could have been himself had the Empire found him early on, or could still become if he gives into the Dark Side.

Therein also lies the possibility to touch on topics like corruption of the innocent, redemption, the value of discipline and maybe even an insight as to why so many willing prefer the order and security of the Empire to the chaos and blatant corruption of the Republic. The kind of things that work best when viewed through the lens of someone still young enough to question, as opposed to the likes of Tarkin or Kallus who've already set their mind in stone.

As for her age; I don't see that being a major problem. Ezra is already competent with a lightsaber (i.e. he hasn't decapitated himself...yet) after just a few months of training and Padawans like Ahsoka were more than capable at that age. Likewise I'm sure Maul was already quite lethal as a child and I gather Assajj was in her early-to-mid teens when her Jedi training was interrupted.

Post-RotJ perhaps, but from what I gather very little of the EU ever covered her life prior to that in any detail. besides, it's not like anyone's suggesting reusing a bunch of obscure EU characters for no good reason; just this one....who happens to be the most popular and well known EU character by a fairly wide margin. Indeed if you were going to adapt *any* EU character into canon, that'd be the most logical choice.

I'd rather they just don't use Mara. She's one of the best EU characters, and I wouldn't want her "re imagined" unless it was in a new book, and written by Timothy Zahn. While I would actually like as much EU used as possible when it comes to a lot of things (since I've always liked the old EU even more than I like the OT movies) with Mara I'd prefer either little change or just no use at all.

I have encounters those that would rather the Empire won. Those that are for order and rule of law in government and see the Rebels as terrorists, traitors, thieves, and pirates.

For future Rebels episodes I wonder if they will introduce the Interdictor Cruiser and its ability to block hyperspace jumps? That seem to be included in the upcoming book focusing on Luke after ANH (also mentions that the Interdictor was an older model and the Rebels had figured out how to deal with them, the Empire instead starting to install the gravity well projctors in Star Destroyers that are not as fragile. The tiny Rebel fleet shoud prove annoying (at best) to the Empire and mght warrent such tactics to prevent them from just jumping in and out as they please.

Three Corellian Corvettes with some heavily armed freighters and a squadron of fighters is annoying to Star Destroyers. Deadly to smaller ships and convoys. Add in one or two more warships and that makes the tiny Rebel fleet potent. Especially one that can carry hyperspace capable fighters, or quick drop captured TIES or old Clone Wars era fighters.

I just hope they haven't blown their load so to speak with bringing Vader in so soon. Hopefully they'll only have him appear occasionally. Of course Tarkin will be leaving at some point to take on his duties as commander of the Death Star. I wonder if it means his re-assignment will be because of a near fatal blow to the rebellion?

I suspect things are going to get ugly on Lothal pretty soon as the Empire really starts tightening its grip. It'd be interesting to see our crew caught between their duty to the rebellion, and the need to help the people of their adopted home.

Really hoping that like TCW, they expand things a bit and have occasional adventures with non regular characters, now that they've revealed the existence other rebel cells. At some point Mon Mothma will need to make an appearance.

Grand Moff Tarkin is basically in charge of the entire Outer Rim Territories (that is a lot of space and systems). He has a lot of things to do and Lothal is an unpleasant distraction from other worlds that need governing and his pet Death Star project so that fear can bring the systems in line, and thus mean he won't have to keep making trips to these backwater worlds.

He is basically one of the most powerful political and military figures in the Galactic Empire. He will have an even more nasty reputation by the time Leia is greeted by him on the Death Star is about four years time. His foul stench and being able to hold Vader's leash being some of the insults the young senator tossed at him. Also that "systems were slipping though his fingers", meaning the Rebel Alliance had been gaining support in the Rim as well as the (recently disbanded) Senate. His Death Star and the Emperor's sweeping away of the Senate was suppose to fix that.

Tarkin has likely glassed planets to end rebellions, and crush rebels inthe literal sense by landing ships on protesters (at least in his old bio, not sure with the new Tarkin book). He is not a nice guy. He is the kind of villain Star Wars has been missing for a while. (Extremely British as well).

Darth Vader wil be after the Jedi and given what he was doing when we first see him in ANH, he's been tracking Rebels for a while now, and failing from time to time...probably due to technicalities. Diplomatic immunity and the like from the Senators. But the likeihood is that Darth Vader will be used sparingly and effectively...he is the Dark Lord of the Sith (and the Chosen One). He may not win all the time, but he will not make it easy for the Rebels.

His counter can only be someone that is very skilled in the Force (or a hot shot pilot if in space). Erza and Kanan are not at that level. Technically, no one is at that level anymore, save maybe Obi-wan and Yoda. Anakin's former padawan though...has a chance since his connection with her would at least throw him off slightly. Anakin has always been weak to his personal feelings and connections.

Darth Vader has only spoken briefly in a hologram and then later walked wordlessly out of a shuttle. I don't think they're in danger of overusing him anytime soon.

Still, it makes sense he would be on Lothal now. That's a lot of Rebel uprising to account for. Looking forward to the offworld action season 2 will bring for our heroes - still no word on when we'll see that.

The little behind the scenes sketches for next season show A-wings as well as some sort of Corellian carrier concept (an enlarged Corvette looking ship that can hold some A-wings). No X-wings yet. No evidence of Y-wings, though those are old and I wouldn't put it past some of the old Clone Wars veterans to be able to acquire them from the Rebellion.

P.S. I love that they're using the original blue A-Wing design.

I must have missed something, where are y'all seeing these?

Right. In the original movie, Tarkin was the guy in charge and Vader was his subordinate. Essentially, Vader was the Sheriff of Nottingham to Tarkin's King John. Or maybe the Sir Guy to Tarkin's Sheriff, with Palpatine as King John. As far as the Outer Rim was concerned, Tarkin was the most powerful authority figure around, second only to the Emperor.

That's why I like it that Rebels is featuring him as a recurring antagonist. It could allow a fuller exploration of just who and what Tarkin really was, demonstrate his power more effectively than his one film appearance did, and hopefully cure misconceptions that he was nothing more than the guy in charge of the Death Star. (Really, why would a battle station commander be addressed as "Governor"?)

I just wish they'd cast his voice better. Granted, Stephen Stanton is the same actor who played Tarkin in The Clone Wars, but he's just not as effective in the role as Peter Cushing was. I wish they'd gone with Wayne Pygram, who played Tarkin briefly in Revenge of the Sith and who, of course, was a magnificent villain as Scorpius on Farscape.

Great episode. Old school. Season 2 is going to be a very different show I think. I for one would like to see Mara. And if other Clone Wars characters can return then I hope to one day see Maul again. He will be a good replacement since I doubt they could put Vader in every episode.

So, I got a deal from my cable provider, whereby it costs me less money to subscribe to more channels (yay!). So, I got XD, and eventually DVRed every episode so far, and now I've seen them all.

The show started off really shaky with "Droids in Distress." But the show gradually and steadily improved, and the finale of "Fire Across the Galaxy" is overall marginally thumbs up for me.

Stealing the transport at the beginning of "Fire" is an example of some of what is wrong with the show. Sabine dancing around and dodging laser blasts was just too much. It is also too easy to levy criticisms such as that the stolen transport should have been immediately identified by the Star Destroyers. "The Rebels We've Been Looking for Just Stole a Transport that Looks Exactly Like This Attached Picture" should have been news-flashed throughout the Imperial Fleet.

Anyway, so, nice lightsaber fight. The sudden close-quarter combat with an elevator full of stormtroopers felt like Dark Forces I, which was a nice touch. Can't say I'm at all surprised by the identity of Fulcrum; I'd already recognized the speech patterns also, as someone upthread had described.

The final space battle was pretty good. The biggest distraction is still the TIE Fighter wing proportions. And I don't think they needed to take it up to eleven with the final wave of enemy TIEs the way they did. I'm having suspension of disbelief problems that the heroes could survive while goofing off in the cabin, although these Rebels have already established themselves as graduates from Jar Jar's School of Fighting.

So yeah, Vader. Too soon? No. They need to amp it up. This show is still functioning well below the peak of The Clone Wars. To the show's credit, I am starting to like all the protagonists, but at 13 episodes in that's a problem that they need to fix real soon. Is it bad that the Inquisitor basically did a Darth Maul? Nah. I got the point he was evidently there to make. Let's move on. And up.

Sure, if they bring Sam Witwer back. He's a really superb voice artist. And it seems likely they would, since Kenobi, Tarkin, and Ahsoka have the same voice actors as on TCW (though Yoda doesn't).
