Star Wars films ranked

Do you think the people who voted for any PT movies over OT movies were not born when the OT was released or watched the PT first?

1. ROTJ: I enjoyed this one the most. The final confrontation between Luke and the Sith Lords is still awesome. I thought it was a great conclusion to the saga.
2. ESB: Yeah, I know it is the best Star Wars movie in terms of quality, but it's not the one I enjoyed the most.
3. ROTS: Despite the fact that a lot of stuff was packed in its three-hours, it was the best prequel film and had a very epic feel.
4. AOTC: This film gets maligned quite a bit, but I enjoyed it. I though Hayden Christensen did a fine job as Anakin and it was great to see the Jedi in action en masse.
5. ANH: Over time, large parts of this film have become a bit boring (mainly the beginning on Tatoonine), but it still rocks because it started it all.
6. CW: A bit of a disappointment. The animated series is much better. The film didn't feel epic enough.
7. TPM: A massive disappointment. Liam Neeson and the Duel of the Fates is its only saving grace.

Some may have been but not all. I saw all of the OT in theaters on the original release, except the first one (I caught that on the '79 rerelease). I rated ROTS above ROTJ.

One thing I think the OT has over the PT is there are a lot of actual real locations they are shooting at for Hoth, Tatooine, Endor, etc. whereas in the PT every location is for the most part computer animation.

I grew up with the OT. Was the biggest Star Wars geek in my little world all through my childhood. To this day, I love Star Wars, and I love the PT. I didn't expect it to be the OT, I didn't even expect it to be the same. I knew what they would be doing and knew that expecting it to be the same would be like expecting a movie about something happening today to be the same as a movie about something that happened in the 1950's. Obviously, they're going to be totally different, and they are. I love the PT, because I didn't let my expectations ruin it for me.

Ranked in the order of which movies I watch and/or think about the most:

1.) The Empire Strikes Back -This seems to be the consensus favorite. Nearly flawless from start to finish. Didn't like some of the 1997 & 2004 alterations except for the addition of Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in 2004 but then they went and changed the dialogue which kind of irked me. Nonetheless, still the best!
2.) Return of The Jedi- This has always been my second favorite movie. Yeah, Wookies would've been cooler than Ewoks but the Ewoks didn't bother me as much as they seem to have bothered most people here. There's also plenty of good stuff happening in the movie that FAR outweighs the battle on Endor with the Ewoks.
3.) Revenge of the Sith- The BEST of the Prequels and nearly on par with my first two favorites. Save for a couple of minor things, the movie was awesome from start to finish. The scene with the Clones turning on the Jedi (Order 66) was simply heartbreaking to watch. Also, the scene where Anakin has to decide whether or not to save Palpatine is a neat parallel to the scene in ROTJ where he has to make a similar decision about whether or not to save Luke.
4.) A New Hope- I don't watch this one too much anymore but it IS the original movie and a nice straightfoward "popcorn movie". I l really like the NPR Radio Drama adaptation of it as it REALLY fleshes the characters and some of their backstory out.
5.) Attack of the Clones- A good prequel that ultimately falls a bit with me short due to some of the romantic scenes that pretty much monopolize the middle act. The first and last acts of the movie, however, were really quite good and I ended up being quite pleasantly surprised by the introduction of Christopher Lee as Count Dooku, as well as the twin revelations that the Clones fight WITH the Jedi during the Clone Wars and that the Republic eventually becomes the Empire (as cleverly foreshadowed by John William's use of the "Imperial March" cue in his score for the movie). :techman:
6.) The Phantom Menace- I thought that TPM was a pretty good movie but I didn't quite understand the significance of the people, places, and things they introduced in the movie until later in the PT. I loved Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon but was sad to see him killed off so soon in the PT. It would've been interesting to see him have some kind of interaction with Dooku in AOTC. Plus the whole "virgin" birth thing with Anakin? WTF???? :scream: It would've been better if they had just left it with Shmi just not wanting to reveal the father or something else. Also, I don't really care about Midi-Chlorians as I felt that that kind of "de-mystified" The Force. Also, an ELECTED Queen at age 14??? :wtf: Children sure do grow up fast in the SW universe. Anybody else ever notice that?

Edit: I didn't think about including the Clone Wars "movie" in this list because, although it was released into the theaters, it really seemed more like a TV series (as it was originally intended to be shown). Still, it was a pretty good introduction to the TV series and I liked how they got Christopher Lee to reprise his "role" as Count Dooku (I believe that Samuel L. Jackson contributed his voice to the movie as well but he was barely featured in it). It was also just nice to have Star Wars back on the big screen when I never expected to see any new Star Wars material on the big screen.

For that matter, how many people in this discussion were adults or close to it when any of the OT movies were released? I was 14 when the original was released, 17 for ESB, and 20 for ROTJ... and by ROTJ I was starting to think I was getting too old for that stuff.

So I was 36 when The Phantom Menace was released. If I thought the Ewoks were a bit much when I was 20, imagine my joy over Gungans and little almost-orphan Annie, the pod-racin', starship-destroyin' miracle worker.

I was born five months after Return of the Jedi was released (ROTJ came out in May '83, I was born in October). But all three of the OT films are on top of the PT films in my rankings.

But I still grew up with the OT (though I didn't really become a huge SW fan until the late 90s), so maybe that has something to do with it.

I was born after the OT (87) and my ranks are...

1. Revenge of the Sith
2. Return of The Jedi
3. The Empire Strikes Back
4. Attack of the Clones
5. A New Hope
6. The Phantom Menace

ROTS has everything needed for a true epic with everything coming together so well but I do wish the film was a little more darker IE - showing more of the Order 66. Romance scenes were better than EP 2 but still far below the great chemistry from the OT between Han/Leia.

ROTJ is a great ending to the OT despite the whole EWOK thing and also contains my most favourite scene from the entire SAGA. Just after Vader finds out about Leia, the scene with him and Luke who has lost all control dueling it out to that wonderful musical score is truly perfect and to see Vader kill Palp is truly a fitting end. Also ROTJ contains the best space battle of the entire saga.

TESB is a very good sequel and I love the darker theme compared to ANH and also the whole father/son scene is very powerful. The film is a true masterpiece from a technical standpoint but for some reason I do not enjoy it as much as EP 3 & 6.

ATOC is under-rated the most IMO...While the love scenes do ruin parts and the over bloated so called execution scene are dodgy too BUT the battle of Geonosis is breath-taking, Chris Lee does a wonderful job playing the Sith, Dooku. Windu & Yoda having bigger roles is a plus and I do like the arrogrant nature of Anakin but agree less whiny and more defiant would of been better. ATOC builds a proper backstory to how Palp takes over and while people may think Politics is boring, its the only way possible he could make himself leader. OH YEH AND YODA FIGHTING WAS COOL AND WORTHY OF CAPS.

ANH is vastly over-rated IMO but I can understand why people love it because there was nothing like it, when it came out but I was brought up in a SCI FI filled movie/TV world so the wow factor is diluated for me. It is still a good movie that sets up the OT very well but lets face it, Vader/Obi Wan duel is boring, seeing so many troopers miss from point blank is laughable at times and while I love the Space battle, it can feel a little empty at times.

TPM is the only one I would say loses something over time, despite an epic duel and the addition of Qui Gon, the film seems to lose its way all too often. Anakin is too young IMO and would of served the film better as a 12/13 year old kid minimum. Jar Jar was a huge mistake but the rest of his race I have no massive problems with and the Race on Tat, is a great CGI feat but not that compelling.

People have so many problems with SW but I will always love STAR WARS and will never twist it like some people who think SW should only be what THEY THINK it should and because it doesn't follow there vision will bash it to the end of days. A lot of problems like dodgy dialogue was around in the OT as well but in the end 1-6 has the same great story feel to it.

Black Lodge, about Bossk-he appears mainly in Shadows of the Empire (The comic adaptation version which focused mostly on Fett) The Bounty Hunter wars novel trilogy, Tales of The Bounty Hunters and in part of the NJO. He also had a few appearences in the Marvel comics and newspaper strip series.

Basically, Bossk is charecterized as Fett's main rival in the Bounty Hunter trade. He's a Trandoshan, a race of lizard people from near Kashykk, and therefore they've had a long fued with the Wookies (This flared up mainly during the Clone Wars where they teamed with the Seperatists against the Republic-aligned Wookies-this is documented in the Republic Commando game).

Bossk's mask is actually a reused cantina alien prop (The "Saurin"), and I think part of his outfit came from the rebel pilot props.

7 when I saw the OT, 9 for TPM. Nowadays the original film feels a bit too small-scale compared to the saga, with C-3PO too goofy (although I still like him). Darth Vader was made so excellently evil in Empire that to have to pity/hope for him in Jedi is pretty difficult; the Emperor's attempted winning over of Luke seems more told than shown (him trying to save Vader made him seem supergood and unlikely to turn to the Dark Side, Palpatine also speaks of how the Rebel fleet is losing but Luke isn't really able to see that, the battle seems far away).
In Clones I disliked the asteroid scene, which seemed really superfluous, but loved Kamino (like Tatooine and Hoth, it had that extreme environment feel) and how ambiguous its inhabitants were. While Anakin wasn't too likable, I liked the idea of his going for Shmi and that search getting worse and worse, and he increased in likability in Sith given Palpatine's charisma (and Yoda's extremism), you could see him being persuaded.

When I was little, ROTJ was definitely my favorite. Then I grew up and started to find the Ewoks annoying..... and then George Lucas had to do the Special Editions which, while they do boast superior special effects, are still inferior versions of the films I grew up with. I like the PT just fine, but I can find plenty wrong with TPM and especially AOTC. That having been said, I rank the Star Wars films like this:

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. Return of the Jedi
5. The Phantom Menace
.
.
.
.
6. Attack of the Clones

Return of the Jedi (I love this one despite the flaws that fanboys groan about)
Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
The Phantom Menace
.
.
.
Revenge of the Sith/Attack of the Clones

I agree with Lindley. While TPM is certainly lesser than any of the OT, it's the latter installments of the PT that really insist on being awful films.
